Information Systems in Military Healthcare CIS 207 Information Systems in Military Healthcare The military is a massive organization that coordinates and cooperates on many levels due to the nature of the goals and processes of the organizations that fall under its umbrella. The military healthcare system is one such sub-organization. Just like any other healthcare system, information and time are the keys to saving lives. The two information system types that will be discussed is the use of internet and intranet networks in the military healthcare system. The first type of information system widely used is the internet. The webpage of the TAMC (Tripler Army Medical Center [TAMC], 2012) has multiple sections for employees, military, and family members to access. The use of the internet for this site helps enable family interaction with the website due to the site serving as both an information hub for hospital services and also updates on unit information within the hospital. Due to the nature of the medium of the network, it also has some drawbacks. ISP disruption for accessing individuals and website maintenance are main concerns when accessing the website. ISP disruption is somewhat out of the hands of individuals. Maintenance is also a part of the drawbacks because no matter how good a site may be, it is like every other website, it needs to be serviced and updated with new information and programs to run efficiently and effectively. The second type of information system widely used is the healthcares own personal intranet systems. Within these intranet systems are multiple programs that are used for effective access to information in a timely matter.
