Steven Reiss’s article, “why America loves reality TV”, explains that Americans fantasize about being famous. Many Americans believe that if others can achieve fame, so can they. Reiss clarified that contestants from different television shows compete everyday to get the highest ratings out of viewers. Reiss stated: “what seems real about reality TV is that it allows Americans to fantasize about gaining status through instant fame”. According to Reiss reality TV educates viewers its shameless behaviors that are shown by the contestants.
“Though often studied within popular culture, television has been transformed by and has touched nearly every aspect of American life and institutions” (Katzman pg. 5). It is debatable that people might shape views as individuals with the number of issues that occur in our media. For instance, television shows can have an incredible effect on youth with fashionable clothes, makeup, cars. The American youth follow their favorite television shows, actors, and actresses.

Everyday children are influenced to buy more, spend more, and have more. As parents work hard to earn a good living, they find it rewarding to provide their children with many indulgences. Although Americans are twice as rich as they were 30 years ago, depression, anxiety, and substance abuse among children and adolescents have increased l00 to 200%.

Video games can bring people to the fantasy world that they dreamed of. If you asked a person what kind of video game they played, most probably the answer is Super Mario Brothers or maybe Pac-man. At a recent conference on virtual worlds in San Jose, Calif., executives from some of the industry's biggest sites touted growing audiences of kids, who spend hours a month playing games and socializing. Some of those communities boasted of successful experiments with marketing.
Media is the backbone of American society today. People thrive on the drama of knowing what celebrity did what with who, or what stocks crashed this week, or even what the next act of congress might be. Every individual will have their own opinion on how important all of these topics are, but the fact still remains that without media, the large majority of people in today’s American society would be lost. One of the most common forms of media that is accessible by every American today is television. Television allows people to know what’s going on in the world, it gives people endless hours of entertainment, and it even has a certain value in advancing people’s knowledge on certain topics.
Visual entertainment has shaped American culture and its value, it has changed the way we communicate with each other. Since 1950’s there have been televisions in homes, people were able to watch their favorite shows, and catch up on the world through the news. Soon after that cell phone came into place. People no longer see the value in communicating with each other face to face. Some would rather create a virtual living life and would “live there”.
Movies, sports from around the world, news, and live war coverage have all made an impact on our culture. People gather together to watch the Super Bowl in bars and at parties. On Tuesday night's families gather around to watch live TV, as American Idol introduces young talent to the screen. Whoever has the biggest TV gets to have movie night at their house. The list is endless for the amount of information transported into our homes every day, changing the way people live and react to life situations It also began to homogenize tastes, styles, and points of view among different groups in the United States.
The television has been proven to be a major benefactor that has changed the household and family life of Americans. The television changed the life of households in America because since it is so popular, most percentage of Americans have more than one television set in their houses. The average American home has approximately at least two or three televisions. About 2% of Americans do not have televisions in their houses. Sometimes, there are more televisions in the average home than there are people.
During my early age I played computer games like GTA Vice City, Street Fighter, Delta Force etc. Images were the main factor that my mentality pulled me towards buying games. As technology advanced, the gaming system also got to the higher level. Game console like Playstation and Xbox started to show up in the market. The consumer rate was so high that when I went to Game Stop to purchase a Playstation it was already sold out.
