The first type is a public domain database. These databases are free to be accessed by anyone, all is needed is a computer and an internet connection. To search for information on these databases, individuals use search engines to find the information they need. The most popular search engine right now is Google. In addition to Google, the other search engines are Bing, which is owned by Microsoft, and Yahoo, among others. It includes many of the same type of features as Microsoft Office, such as word processing, spreadsheet, presentations, and graphics among its programs. When Oracle acquired Sun Microsystems in 2009, it acquired Open Office as well. In 2011, Oracle relinquished commercial interest and returned further development to the open source community. This means Open Office is no cost to download or use. The software can be installed on as many devices as needed without being restricted or having to pay a fee. The entire suite can be downloaded or just the applications that are needed. Of course, free software has its disadvantages. Open Office is slower than Microsoft Office and there is no dedicated support to back the software in case of a problem. Their customer service consists of community user support in the form of blogs and forums to find answers. Open Office does not have as many features as Microsoft Office; additional features needed have to be added on later.
