Thematic Essay During the 19th century the United States experienced tremendous industrial growth. Industrialization is the period of social and economic change that transforms a human group from an agrarian society into an industrial one. It is a part of a wider modernization process, where social change and economic development are closely related with technological innovation, particularly with the development of large-scale energy and metallurgy production. It is the extensive organization of an economy for the purpose of manufacturing. Industrialization also introduces a form of philosophical change where people obtain a different attitude towards their perception of nature, and a sociological process of rationalization. Two of the American changes were the new inventions or technologies and increased urbanization. In the new inventions or technologies it had a great impact on American life. The invention were such as steamboats, railroads, telegraph, electric lighting. Two of the great inventions were the Transportation and Communication because it start to move people to certain places, Steamboats was launched by Robert Fulton in 1807. It could move a boat against the current in a river by a large paddle wheel that turned in the water. The paddle wheel attached to the back of the boat was powered by a steam engine aboard the boat. Fulton's first steamboat, the Clermont, traveled at a speed of 5 miles an hour. Soon Fulton was providing regular passenger service on the Hudson River, from New York City to Albany. Railroad had also a great change because people start to travel around and it was a great invention they also use to transport products across the country, Railroads for steam powered trains were introduced in the United States in the 1830's.
