For a leader, management is the most significant responsibility, and managers are obligated to co-ordinate resources, control activities and organize work for an entity. In the management process, motivation plays a key role in improving the performance of employees and the company as a whole (Kotter, 1988). DrainFlow, a plumbing maintenance company is now facing several issues in its operation, such as inefficient workload allocation and low employee satisfaction level and low customer satisfactions. This report will start from motivation, to analyse the problems and solutions for the problems of DrainFlow. Two theories/concepts are chosen as the basis for our analysis: Adam’s Equity Theory and Communication Network, to generate conclusions and recommendations for the company. 2. Description of Theories Motivation, according to George, Jones and Sharbrough (1996), motivation is the psychological forces that drive people’s behaviour, level of effort and level of persistence in an organization. Employee motivation is often one of the biggest challenges of a manager and a key to the effectiveness of a company. In this report, two theories/concepts on employee motivation are chosen to address DrainFlow’s operating issues: Adam’s Equity Theory and Job Satisfaction.
