Over the years though, the revulsion dies away everywhere and people show love for one another. I believe that, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, should be taught in school. Many people are against Mark Twain’s famous book. People say that the use of the N-word offends them and that it makes them feel inferior to others. This book may make individuals feel as if they are lower than those around them, but instead of looking at the negativity in the book one should learn to look at the positive matters in it.
So i can say that in this class, ideology impacted me to an extent, but in certain areas, its still undefined for me. Though my education and how i can ideologically apply it to literature is still undefined, I can easily say that i really enjoyed this class. I walked out knowing more than i did when i came in, and it also altered the way i view things such as friends, family, work, religion and so on. I could never study ideology itself and truly be interested but i am very glad that i was given an opportunity to learn that there are other ways of viewing everyday
Taking the learning style assessment test was very interesting experience. I had no idea there different types of learners. I always thought that I was more of hands on learner and visual learner. After taking the assessment, I discovered that my learning style is auditory. As I reflect back, I noticed that I do read aloud to myself and I also enjoy working in groups and often participate in class discussions.
Sherman Alexia in the fictional story, “Indian Education” explains that native American life on the reservation is not what people believe it to be. Alexie supports his claim by describing life on the reservation, going to school in a farm town, and deliberately choosing certain words to paint a picture for the reader. The author writes in a tone of irony and frustration for an audience that may stereotype Native Americans on false assumptions. Although the story is fictional, it is based on facts, as the Alexie experience these things firsthand growing up. Because of this, the reader can take how the author describes the reservation as fact.
Yelling is not the right way to teach a child that they just did something wrong. When you explain to a child in a positive yet strict way that their actions were not pleasing, they perceive the information so much better than when being yelled at. Just like with my own children, I always reassured my classroom children that even though they made a bad decision, I still love them. The challenge didn’t come from my own classroom, the challenges came from the guardians. Through our program, we had to have several “workshops” with the guardians each year.
Fitting in is a tricky and difficulty for many students under the best of circumstances, it’s also can be even harder for those who are Native American, who are expected to meet conflicting cultural expectations in addition to the normal teasing and bullying encountered by kids who are different. In “Indian Education” by Sherman Alexis that published in 1993 shows the audiences the image of a life of an Spokane Indian with a humor, irony, a bit of bitter with teenager tone about how he faces discrimination, stereotype and how hard it is for him to live and have his own education in the society of different ethnical as an Native American Indians. “My hair was too short and my US Government glasses were horn-rimmed, ugly” (page #) with those describes in the first sentence, the author uses the word “ugly” to point out how he lacks of self confidence, uncomfortable, and he was picked on because he was different from the
Every student goes through some good and bad teachers. A few select teachers have the power to engage students on a completely new level. This gives the student an automatic confidence boost and the wanting to succeed in the subject. I have had the opportunity to experience one of the best. Pete Tarnish was an outstanding teacher who was able to communicate well with his students, care deeply about them, and be a great family man.
To me, my cultural artifact speech felt like it was just going to naturally flow out. I practiced it several times but every time I practiced the speech I found myself changing bits and pieces of it. My Livestrong bracelet means so much to me and to talk about it sounded like it was going to be easy, but I was wrong. I did not stick to my outline, I feel like because I didn’t decide on one last final draft is why my speech delivery wasn’t good. Not staying with my speech outline it made me nervous and because I didn’t want to stumble, I stumbled
