India The republic of India is a country which is located in South Asia. It is the seventh largest country in the world by area. It is also the largest country in South Asia, and second largest country in all of Asia. With China of course being number one. With over one billion people, the population of India is quite a few, and is still growing. In India they use Indian rupees, and one Indian rupee is about 0.11 NOK. The other way around would be that 1 NOK is about 9.37 rupees. The national languages are Indian English and Hindi. In India you’ll find many beautiful cities, among them are New Delhi, which is also the capital. Other cities notable cities are Mumbai, Bangalore, and Visakhapatnam. There are very many different ethnic groups in India. Like about 40 of them. Some of them are the Bengali people, the Kashmiri people, and the Mizo people. They also have clans and tribes, so there are quite a few. India known as the land of spirituality and philosophy is the birthplace of some religions, which still exist in the world today. The most dominant religion in India today is Hinduism. About 80% of Indians are Hindus. Hinduism is a colorful religion with a vast gallery of Gods and Goddesses. Hinduism is one of the ancient religions in the world. It is supposed to have developed about 5000 years ago. Later on in ancient period other religions developed in India. Around 500 BC two other religions developed in India, namely, Buddhism and Jainism. Today only about 0.5% of Indians are Jains and about 0.7% are Buddhist. These three ancient religions, Hinduism, Buddhism and Jainism, are seen as the molders of the India philosophy. In 'modern' period new religions were also established in India. Of its 1.1 billion people, the Hindus account for 80.46%, Islam 13.43%, Christian 2.43%, Sikh 1.87%, and the Buddhists 0.77%. In different parts of India,
