Impromptu Speeches Essay

Impromptu Speech I decided to choose this topic, because it is one of my biggest pet peeves when it comes to interacting with my friends from back home. It is not so much in my family because majority of my family members are in the military, so it is well understood by them. When giving an impromptu speech on a topic I am passionate about and have personal experience on, I rarely get nervous. I was also in the contents of my own home in an area where I am familiar so I was indeed comfortable. If given the situation to speak in front of people that I did not know and in an unfamiliar venue, I would honestly have to say I think nerve would get the best of me. Many people have given me many tips to try to relax my nerves when speaking in front of an unfamiliar audience. Some say find a common ground i.e. age group or common backgrounds to relate with the audience. Breathing is also one of the top pieces of advice given to me as well. In-between topics or sentences, take a deep breath (but not too deep) to release endorphins to relax myself. The last form of relaxation, oddly enough, is to have a glass of water to drink in-between topics or paragraphs. I happen to think this form of relaxation gives a bit of an unprofessional look, but I have seen many public speakers have this available. I fell the best way for me to fix the nervousness, is to work on my breathing. There are times I will get caught up or ahead of myself and throw my breathing pattern off. I plan to pay more attention to where I plan to end my sentences, and breathe. I fell as if I also need to improve in my tone when delivering my message. There was once a point where I would speed through my speeches and had a terrible habit of borderline yelling when I was speaking. Although, even to this day, I do not believe I was yelling, I heard that feedback enough to try to adjust my volume.
