Carece Moore Eng101 5/18/2015 The importance of sports Sports are a part of the threads that make up society. They play a major role in our lives and we do not even know it. Involvement in sports is extremely important, and should be encouraged more. Children, and young people in particular, need to play sports so that they develop good habits that they can continue into their adulthood. All in all, the fact that playing sports is good for us and extremely beneficial is completely undeniable and should not even be up for a debate. Playing sports is beneficial for children because it helps them develop better cooperation skills, better coordination, and better overall health. Sports provide physical benefits, psychological benefits, and also lifetime opportunities. During sports a person can come to learn many things. We learn how to maintain mental balance in the midst of hopes and despair. They make us learn how to tackle the difficult situation. Sports develop a sense of friendliness. They develop in us team spirit. They help in developing mental and physical toughness. According to the Competitive Advantage blog some of the main mental toughness that athlete’s gain is, “staying relaxed under pressure, focusing on what’s important and letting go of everything else, handling last minute self-doubts and negative thinking, motivating yourself by setting personally meaningful and compelling goals and recognizing mental traps and avoiding them.” (Competitive Advantage) Developing self-confidence and a positive, go-for-it attitude. They shape our body and make it strong and active. They give us energy and strength. They remove tiredness and lethargy. They improve blood circulation. This improves our physical well-being.
