Importance of Safety Equipment

It is vital that the public is educated on the importance of school bus safety. If the public is educated about school bus safety then there will no room for error when a child is exiting the school bus. In this paper the public will be informed on the importance of school bus safety. There are many things about a school bus that the public does not realize how important they are. Some of the most important things on a school bus are the horn, emergency door and buzzer, daily walk around inspection, and stop arm. They have to make sure these are checked daily in order to ensure a safe ride for the children everyday. According to www.mde.k12.ms.us “In Mississippi, more than 5,400 school buses transport more than 450,000 students to and from school each day. That adds up to 54 million miles each year” (2013). This information is very important to the public, because there is many people that don’t know how many buses are transporting students to and from school each day. In the state of Mississippi there’s a school bus task force set up. The governor of Mississippi (Governor Phil Bryant) has joined the force and they are making the communities aware of the importance of National School Bus Safety Week. According to www.mde.k12.ms.us “Bryant has signed a proclamation calling on the citizens of the state to exercise constant courtesy and caution when near school buses” (2013). The horn has to be clear at all times so that it can be used whenever it is needed. There may be a car that might not see the school bus, and pull out in front of the bus, the driver my have to blow the horn. The horn is also used when students cross in front of the bus if a car happens to pass the stop sign. Another use of the horn is when the bus has to back up to alert the public of its intentions.
