Importance of Physical Fitness in Marksmanship First of all, Physical fitness has been defined as a set of attributes or characteristics that people have or achieve that relates to the ability to perform physical activity. It is very important in our daily lives for it is one of the fundamental requirements of our body to perform task with vigour. There are four Fundamentals of Marksmanship: Breathing, Point of Aim, Steady Position, and Trigger Squeeze. These are the basics that we, as the shooter, physically control. We can be as meticulous as possible, but if we do not strictly adhere to a simple shooting regiment built around these fundamentals; everything will be in vain. The basic fundamentals are what make or break us as precision long range shooters. These basic fundamentals need a certain degree of fitness for them to be accomplished. Generally, it is important to have great balance and coordination to be a good shooter. These are the basic steps in attaining natural point of aim. Natural point of aim is a shooting skill where the shooter minimizes the effects of body movement on the firearm's impact point. Along with proper stance, sight picture and trigger control, it forms the basis of marksmanship. Also, you also have to be flexible to get the body into the correct positions comfortably, and in some disciplines it is important to be agile and quick. For us to attain a steady position we need to have a proper degree of fitness in balance and coordination. Muscle strength and endurance is also very important for holding the gun up and moving with control. Two major factors affecting accuracy are the heart rate and breathing. Improvement in scoring and becoming an expert shot begins with a physical training program. Many shooters attempt to fire at a target between heartbeats, when the body is at its most stable.
