Because Franklin was so well known and respected, colonists trusted him in his thoughts about nature and reason. They followed his thinking that he could make their lives better if they just listened to him. In Franklin’s piece “The Way to Wealth,” he advises his readers to take his advice about how to earn money and spend it. “While laziness travels so slowly, that Poverty soon overtakes him, as we read in Poor Richard, who adds, Drive thy Business, let not that drive thee; and Early to Bed, and early to rise, makes a Man healthy, wealthy and wise” (FTR, 78). Never to be in debt, and never to be lazy is what he advises his readers to do and for himself.
The character in “Whats Eating Gilbert Grape” and Of Mice and Men by John Stienbeck reveal that people who are at a disadvantage in life weather it be their own problem or something that someone puts upon the must find something that they can use to escape those things in order to find thier own happiness. An example from Of Mice and Men is the character Lennie. Lennie has a disability and has to live with it. he gets around well by his friend George who takes of him he watches over and makes sure Lennie stays out of trouble. Lennie enjoys being happy from the little things in life.
An important event in the “Maya Creation Myth” would be when the humans made of flesh help give warmth to the man made of gold. As well as when the gods decide that they rich couldn’t go to heaven without the poor. The important characters would be the gods because they represent nature; everything is reproduced to perfection except for some. The significance of this story is that we all need to treat others equally because that is what the “gods” intended for us to do. (“Maya Creation Myth”) D. An important event in “The Coyote and The Hen” is when the coyote lies to the hen saying that a treaty has been signed so they could be friends.
The advice explains that “life near the bone is sweetest.” The simple life (i.e. that which lived close to the bone) is "sweetest" because it is more soul-enriching and has fewer complications. Thoreau’s advice further advocates that one should enjoy each and every day to its fullest as seen in the quote, “If the day and the night make one joyful, one is successful.” Thoreau also believes that one should seek one’s own path regardless "If a man does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer. Let him step to the music which he hears, however measured or far away." By doing so, men may find happiness and
Even though he has a full load of classes not having turn any work would allow him to relax, because he would focusing on current and not any extra work. The professor is helpful with homework and further understanding of their work. The Class is a stress reliever that could help Thomas balance his other class. On top of his work schedule, he would be able to relax in his other classes and further concentrate in the work in those classes. Thomas should definitely keep Study Skills because it will allow him to have a further understanding in all of his
In life, I think we get too comfortable, and stop striving to do more for ourselves, whether it be physically, mentally, or emotionally. We grow content living in status quo. This experience he had with Robert, gave him insight to that. And I feel he will be a different person in the morning, however, it will take some work to keep that mind state. Changes don’t happen overnight, or with a snap of the finger.
Another similarity between the two is both men in these stories are content with their lives. They are not greedy men, and seem to have everything they want. An example of this is in “The Monkeys Paw” Mr. White says “it seems to me I’ve got all I want.” All Mr. White wishes for in his first wish is for two-hundred pounds to pay off his house. Mr. Peters uses his first wish for someone with whom he can share the rest of his life with. Also, in both stories, there were unforeseen consequences from the first wish, making them need to use their second wish to fix it.
God a’mighty, if I was alone I could live so easy.” The way that George expresses him self here is very important in understanding how Steinbeck wants us to see this character. Although we see how George would like to live a carefree life with nobody to have to look after, we also get to see that he truly loves Lennie and although he may complain about having to look after him he likes the company and we see this later on when he is talking to Slim the skinner at the ranch, “Course Lennie’s a God damn nuisance most of the time,’ ‘but you get used to goin’ around with a guy” this is the time where we see that if George was to lose Lennie he would also become disadvantaged as he would have nobody to confide in and would probably go insane with loneliness and self pity. Lennie gives George a reason to live and something to work for, he also helps to keep George inline as he thinks about Lennie before himself so looks after their “stake” and saves to buy the small plot of land they dream
Although the general tone of the poem is negative at first – where the persona feels he has to “drag his body behind” (1st stanza) – as his journey progresses and as he begins to find remnants of his childhood in Darwin, it becomes one of happiness. The free-verse structure allows the composer to express his thoughts about the journey much easier as he is not restricted by the rhyme or to a certain number of syllables per line – just as the persona is not restricted to one place, he travels the world and is limitless.
It is very clear he is an educated and lucid man from his writing, and at first, it is natural to feel sorry for him – he has no home, and nothing to call his own, except his dog, Lizbeth, who it is clear he loves very much. However, as his story progresses, it is quite clear he is not looking for pity. He is simply sharing the tips and tricks of his trade, as any other worker would do. He does not want the reader to feel sorry for him, he simply wants them to understand what it is he does, and why. He makes Dumpster diving seem somewhat exciting and mysterious, rather than sleazy and disgusting.
