Importance of History History is undoubtedly important due to various reasons. First and foremost, history allows us a chance to identify our nationality and understand the past human behavior. For instance, we were born in unknown identity, but if we look back to history, we can clarify our origin and who we really are. On the other side of that, by learning from our ancestors in the past, we are able to think of the thoughts, attitudes and practices that differ from nowadays’ life. At the same time, we can learn why they behaved in that ways and why they did things in those phases. Secondly, history guides us to various aspects from the past, and hopefully we can avoid those same mistakes had made in the past. For example, as we all know, Khmer Rouge was happened because the rich people in that time looked down on the poor people. The poor people lived in the bad conditions. As the result, they established the party in order to overthrow the Lon Nol regime. Pol Pot evolved all political system in Cambodia to communism and took control of Cambodian people and set up policies that disregarded human life and produced repression and massacres on a massive scale. Everyone was killed cruelly and we actually realize that it was a big mistake that Khmer people had murdered our own nations. For this reason, we learn that we should not discriminate on people in general so that we can live in peace. Last but not least, history lets us express ourselves with pride regarding our pasts. In this case, whenever our knowledge related to history is broad enough, we are able to challenge with people around the world without fear. In brief, history is basically important because it allows us to identify our nationality and to understand the past human behavior, to learn the mistakes from the past and hopefully we can avoid those same
