The two short stories by Richard Wright, "Almos' A Man" and Ernest Gains, "The Sky is Gray" show the struggle and sacrifice the parents make in order for their children to be a "man" in the world that awaits them. Dave and James, both have similar life styles and challenges, but both attempt to overcome these challenges a completely different way. Both children are young and lack the knowledge of the "real world" in which their parents trying their best to prepare them. Weather each child makes a successful transition to adulthood is up to them, and their wise choice.
The Struggles of Will Falke In William Wallis novel, Hawk, the main character of the novel, Will Flake encountered many challenging circumstances that aroused struggles in his young life. These struggles made Will grow up unconsciously at an early age. His father’s brutal beatings, the absence of his mother’s presence in his daily life and struggles at school, made young Will strong and withstand any obstacle in life. The guidance and love of a parent in a child’s life is the most important role or aspect that a child can have, but all of these aspects were missing in Will’s life which made him explore life on his own. In this novel, the author shows the reader how the protagonist has been cursed and blessed at the same time by the series
At home, he lived in fear of his mother and resented his father for not helping him. His siblings, at the insistence of his mother, often joined in abusing him. Dave Pelzer had every reason to develop into a product of nurture. After entering the foster care program, Dave Pelzer did not know how to behave in society. He defied his foster parents rules and go in trouble at school.
The house is gaining more control than it was ever intended to have, making the house harder to control. Less control can mean any number of scary situations for the unfortunate family living in the house. By the same token, Bradbury writes, “This room is their mother and father” (6). Plain and simple, the room is parent to the children more than the biological parents are. Because the parents do not actually raise their children, the children are attached to the machines that are raising them.
He has to be confidently and bravery to face with dangers to help and save people successfully. For example, in the novel “Enrique’s Journey”, Enrique faces a lot of dangerous things everyday such as living with evil people, having no food, drinking dirty water, but he still want to continue traveling to find his mother while many people don't think that is good way and he should come home. Because he just a young person, he cannot face with all these situations. He sees people lose a part of their body, rape and kill people every single day. However, he never has any thought that he will give up and come home without mom.
In the last story The Most Dangerous Game, A man is forced to survive in ways he didn’t know were possible. Throughout all three stories, the main characters learn a life lesson, grow as people, and change from the experience they have been put in. In the story Marigolds, the main character Lizbeth is experiencing conflict in her life. Her conflict is that she is forced to become an adult. “Each morning our mother and father trudged wearily down the dirt road and around the bend (Pg50).” The parents did everything they could to support the family.
David does not understand the severity of such status until he meets Sophie, a girl who was born with an extra toe on each foot. David befriends Sophie and keeps her secret. When her secret is discovered by another boy in the district, Sophie and her family are forced to flee. As a result David realizes that, if his secret is discovered, he will suffer dire consequences. As David gets older, he and the other telepathic children master the use of their abilities.
The kids are bounced from home to home and never find a permanent place to stay. The older kids are offered education and resources to prepare for a transition on living on their own. Children in foster homes face many struggles. They usually blame themselves for being in foster care and sometimes wish to return to the parents, even if the parents abused them or the kid was neglected.
