The benefits of a higher education are boundless and filled with much gratification. Education is key to securing a promotion, achieving a salary plateau or preparing you for the career you have dreamed of. With a higher education more opportunities arise for better employment, increased salary and in turn an enhanced quality of life. Along with your successes you may also encourage those around you to continue to strive towards a higher education or inspire others to return to complete a higher education. Education is something you earn through much hard work and time and may be used as a guide throughout your career. Education comes along with certain privileges leading you on a path toward a selected career. Acquiring a higher education provides you with a competitive edge in the workplace. When promotion times comes about employers take many things in account. Besides important attributes such as work ethic and problem solving abilities an employee with a degree has more of an edge over an employee with work experience alone. Achieving a degree shows an employer that the employee is determined to excel in one’s career and willing to be a hard worker in many cases going above and beyond. The success of your college career may often time’s spill over into your professional career. Although obtaining a college degree may be a costly venture it may also be considered a sound investment. To prove that earnings increase with educational level, statistics from the U.S. Census Bureau show, “Adults ages 25 to 64 who worked at any time during the study period earned an average of $34,700 per year. Average earnings ranged from $18,900 for high school dropouts to $25,900 for high school graduates, $45,400 for college graduates, and $99,300 for workers with professional degrees (M.D., J.D., D.D.S., or D.V.M.).” (Day, Newburger, 2002) Over the time of a career these
