The Impact of Technology
I am considered part of the Net Generation.   The Net Generation, also known as Digital Natives, Generation Y, Baby Boom Echo or Millennials, refers to people born between the early 1980’s and 2000.   This group of young people have grown up with technology and are often looked at by the Baby Boomers and Employers as the “dumb generation.”   We are referred to as Net addicted, anti-social, lazy, cyberbullies, having weak work ethics and being disrespectful.   Mr. Don Tapscott, author of “Grown Up Digital”, begs to differ about the Net Gen being dumb by proving an increase in IQ, students attending college, SAT scores even when students attending college dropped.   There were various sites that I visited that gave different Net Gen brackets, but according to Mr. Tapscott the Net Gen consists of people born 1977-1997.   Either way I fall into this generation because I was born in 1984.  
Although I am considered to be part of this Net Gen, I don’t feel like I am.   Mr. Tapscott says the Net Generation grew up with technology their whole life.   I personally feel that my children are more part of this generation than I am.   They’ve had more exposure to technology than I ever did at their age.   I didn’t grow up with much technology in my house.   I had a TV, a Super Nintendo and a landline phone growing up.   There was a computer in the house, but was off limits because it was my dad’s work computer.   It wasn’t until after high school that my siblings and I had cell phones because my parents felt that was a “want” and not a “need” so if we wanted one, we could get a job and buy it ourselves.   Our TV and video game time was limited to an hour on ugly rainy days, Friday Nights for shows on TGIF and Saturday mornings for cartoons.   Other than that we were to go outside and play or use our imagination and stay out of my mom’s way.   Mr. Tapscott points out that my parents (the Baby Boomer Generation) spends more time watching TV than us and in my case, it...
