From the invention of the wheel, to the invention of iphones and ipads, technology has continuously changed the way we communicate and has had a massive impact on us as individuals, groups, and institutions. Though the wheel isn’t what we would classify as “technology” in today’s society, it was still able to change the way the society of the time lived, the same way that the invention of smartphone’s and tablets have changed the lives of today’s modern society. Inventions such as the internet, smart phones, social networks, etc, have moulded us into a technology relied society. “The Internet is the most important single development in the history of human communication since the invention of call waiting.” With technology at the tip of our hands every minute, there is by far no doubt that technology has made an immense impact on us. Technology such as smartphone’s, television’s, tablets, etc, have indeed, without doubt, made an impact on the way individuals communicate and spend their lives. According to a report done by McCrindle Research, Australians spend 10 hours and 19 minutes on average on electronic media each day. With only 24 hours in a day, this is in essence, half a day, half of their lives gone on to using electronic technology. With technology evolving, we have access to it basically everywhere, giving us individuals the ability to use technology for hours on end. The way we communicate has changed a lot. Instead of writing a letter to someone who may live in a different state or country to communicate with them, we just hop on facebook or kik and send them a message. Social networks have become the new norm of communication. Us as individuals rely on technology to communicate to others in today’s modern society.
