Reading Response: Time to Reboot America By Thomas Friedman In the New York Times editorial, Time to Reboot America, Thomas Friedman explores the cause, the severity, and the solution for America’s financial crisis. To gain a deeper understanding of Friedman’s article, an in depth exploration through two different scopes is necessary. The first scope is observing the articles rhetorical context, and the second is evaluating how effective the employed arguments are. Thomas Friedman is known by many as an expert on modern business. He is a globally syndicated journalist for the New York Times, and is very involved in topics relating to the environment.

Sarbanes Oxley came into force mainly due to the financial scandals committed by corporate giants like Enron, WorldCom, etc. Since then the Sarbanes Oxley act had been the most important piece of legislation which seriously affects the corporate governance, financial disclosures and total accounting pattern in the companies. After the Sarbanes Oxley act came into force, accounting system and financial statements disclosed by the companies made tremendous progress. This improvement has been possible due to rigorous requirements stated in the Sarbanes Oxley act. Roberts’ uses simplistic terms to tell a story that follows the time-traveling journey of Ed Johnson, and his guardian angel David Ricardo. Throughout this journey, Dave’s main purpose is to educate Ed about free trade and protectionism just before the time the country is about to embark on a course of total protectionism in the 1960s, by which Ed had a massive influence on. In doing this task it gives Dave the opportunity to change his status as a wanderer in the courts of heaven.
Its here that Paul Johnson focuses in his book A Shopkeepers Millennium. Johnson tells how the economic changes from 1815-1837, the height of the movement, had a major impact on the society of Rochester. He uses city records to outline and support the reasons for the political, social, and religious changes in Rochester throughout this time. Was Government Technological Control Beneficial for American People? The government during the 19th Century was beginning to be involved in many on going projects. The steam engines were one of the first inventions that the Government regulated.
