It has been especially noticed by my friends that I use the word ‘dude’ very frequently, this could be due to the fact that American phrases are being passed on more easily than before through the internet, making it easier for teenagers to pick up. A factor that I mentioned affected my speech was gender. While exploring my own language use I found that I am more comfortable around my own gender than with males, I believe this to be because of the school that I attend. As it is an all-girls school with mainly female teachers I have grown up in an environment that is mainly female dominated and I think this has affected my speech greatly. I have noticed that I tend to speak faster and use hand gestures while at school as girls tend to talk a lot and over-lap each other so it can be hard to get your point across in a conversation if you don’t make your point quickly.
Other languages that are used in Thailand are Chinese, Lao, Malay and Mon-Khmer, while English use is becoming more prevalent in government and commerce (Walt, 2009). English is also being taught as a second language in secondary school and universities, which enables the English speaking visitor in Thailand to have little trouble conversing. This is significant to the nurse, as should be prepare for a translator if English is not very fluent, as medical terms may be difficult to understand, and the Thai patient may nod in approval without fully understanding what is being discussed. The official language spoken in Poland is Polish. It is spoken by most of the 38 million people who reside in the country (Littler, 2010).
She states that there are millions of dollars spent each year to provide translators and translations to non-English speakers that can be saved if they were required to learn English. She claims that one of the most important aspects of assimilating to American culture is the speaking of English and it helps them in reaching the “American dream.” She states that even their board members are fluent in many other languages in an attempt to show how they willingly made a choice to learn instead of just relying on someone else. She claims that if it is not fixed numbers will continue to climb and taxpayer dollars will continue being used for something that should be known by an American citizen. She lastly states that there is nothing wrong with being multi-lingual but it is wrong to think you can move to this country and not learn English and at the tax payer expense survive by keeping your home
Ever since I took classes where I learned about various countries and their cultures, it has always been my dream to be bilingual. In so many places around the world, children begin to learn English at a very young age. This has always been very important because the United States is a very powerful independent country, unlike many of the smaller countries with failing economies. This brings me to one of Gonzales’s main points, that immigrants don’t want to come to the United States, but have to for a better life. Many people think immigrants are willingly “taking over” the United States, but I agree with Gonzalez.
Voting for me would allow them to have a better secretary for the rest of the year and possibly a better representative next year. By voting for me to go to CASL, my classmates would benefit because we would have a better & experienced leader in their class. I have shown major commitment and dedication to both leadership and my class. Every single day (even Mondays), I am early and ready to learn how to become a better leader. I have also been at almost every single workday the freshman class has had for all required events.
is growing in populations and with this growth more people with disabilities are still working. According to the Disability status report the rate for Georgia citizens with a disability is around 12% all races and ages are included in this figure. In our school system we have a growing number of volunteers who are disabled in some sort of way. When asked why they are still volunteering in the school they state that it is either to supplement their income or to help keep them mobile and improve their health. A.1.a.
This is my first year in the ESL class of Essex County College. I have learned many things in my ESL 103/104 class. But there are things I`ve done well and wrong. Also I would like to evaluate this year in terms of how I improved my English skills (speaking, writing, reading and listening). Most of the things I've done well in this class.
I made many good friends, and learned a lot about the church. Beside that, I was also in the scouting program where I learned many useful skills which I still find useful in my everyday life. Later, at the age of high school I also attended early morning seminary until I graduated in 1996. During these precious years of my life, my intellect began to be developed. I learned English quickly my first summer in the United States, enabling me to communicate with other people effectively.
In an article called the impact of Authentic Literacy Instruction on Adult Literacy practices shows that teaching adults to understand English as it correlates to their daily lives makes a significant difference. Where traditional practices in the classroom are helpful to some students, authentic learning practices such as role playing and mimicking real life situations to make connections for the adults helps many other students (Purcell-Gates Et all. 2002). These practices can be used everyday anywhere at any given time. Inevitably, creating a connection visually realistically or even hypothetically can simplify the concepts of grammar, listening speaking and writing
While most complain about the bilingual programs being put into school, we have to think about the benefit of this as well. Most professors agree that this is a beneficial investment; children that are schooled over in Europe often times learn multiple languages, it would help the children to educate them with a foreign language (Martinez 3). While yes, immigrants in our country may sometimes cost a little bit extra money to us through taxes or to the government, for the most part it all evens out and we gain it back in some other
