The good thing about teacher offering extra points for participation in charity drives is that those will get more student participation than normal. Most students will ignore or just forget to donate if there’s nothing in it for them. It also raises awareness of charities or world/national/community problems in general. Most students if it doesn’t affect their life then it’snot important. By teachers giving points then students also get an opportunity to help them raise their grade.
Welsh says the reasoning behind the emigrated student’s success is the self determination and motivation to do well in school, as well as hard work exerted by the students. I agree with Welsh’s argument and believe that students who emigrated from foreign countries to the United States see their learning opportunity as a privilege that they do not take for granted unlike most of us. The American student s who are born with the opportunity to learn in United States schools tend to take their education for granted. They see it more as a requirement rather than opportunity. Welsh’s article discusses the difference between American students and Asian students.
This group is usually your more attractive, stylish, snobbish group. This group normally participates and excels in sports and clubs within high school, thinking that academics are not an important aspect of high school expecting to attend college on an athletic scholarship with colleges passing them through because of excelling in sports. The nerdy, geek group of kids are typically made up of the more intelligent, reading type of individuals who seek solace from within their self. This group is the one that most of your jocks and cheerleaders run to when they are in need of tutoring or a paper written. Your popular group otherwise has no association with them.
In the next few paragraphs I will elaborate on my thoughts on why Student Council is important. Student Council helps you develop leadership skills. You are a leader to your peers. Being part of student government you make decisions that may affect the entire school, even if it is something as small as the theme for the homecoming dance. The other students look up to you because they see you taking responsibility of making things happen with their school.
Once I am in SWAG other students will realize this and might want to achieve like me and try to be in SWAG. While in SWAG I will let younger students know that it doesn't matter what age you are to become a leader. Also, I will become an elite member of SWAG. I have a great GPA and can really speak for the students to make this school better. I could take ideas and listen to the students.
We have age limits and restriction on many things, but why does are education system expect these young kids to make the right choices, ask for help and develop good study habits on their own. Our education system needs a new approach to resolve these issues. Teachers and parents need to be held responsible, for how well these kids do in school. We need come up with a new plan so these students aren’t left lost and helpless. Flunking students can be used as a positive tool by our education system.
Gym should be mandatory in high schools around Canada because it encourages a positive lifestyle, gives teenagers an outlet for their energy, cuts down on obesity, and eliminates stress. Gym class does not only involve sports activities and endurance training. It is physical education where students are taught the basis of living a positive, healthy lifestyle. Not only that, but students learn how to work well in teams and can gain a sense of responsibility as well as other skills associated with group work. Gym can instill teens with a sense of self-worth and self-esteem and helps them to maintain self-interest.
This system, along with an intrinsic motivation to do well, has always encouraged me to do my best in school and do whatever I could to learn more and keep my grades high, resulting in me being a better student, learning more study skills, and getting higher grades than I might have otherwise. I have noticed, however, that the conditioning was more effective before college. Now that I am living away from my parents and do not know many of my professors personally, I do not have the immediate day-to-day rewards or punishments. The effects persisted strongly in my first few months of college, but then slowly declined. I still work hard and get good grades, but there is less of a motivation to study constantly and I often find myself not using my free time as efficiently as I would have at home.
Charter Schools: A Better Choice for Parents The recent growth of Charter schools in America is a welcome change for many parents who want choice in education. Students and families are recognizing the real benefits Charter schools have to offer. Parents want schools that are safe, cultivate a positive attitude about learning, and best fit their children’s abilities and interests (Richwine & Heritage 2010). Charter schools are a better option than public schools because charter schools offer smaller classes, the faculty has the ability to use experimentation with different teaching methods and parents are able to be more involved in the school as a whole. Smaller class sizes are not only beneficial to students but to teachers as well.
