Classical and Renaissance Arts Periods
Classical era and Renaissance are two major periods in the history of arts. Significant progression has been seen in the discipline of architecture, visual arts, literature and music. In this regard, architecture has evolved over the eras. The essay thus compares and contrasts the classical and the Renaissance age periods. Classical age is the period in the history of Greece and Rome. During the period, the Roman Christian Church controlled the nature of arts that were created. The sculptures were majorly based on religious motifs. The painting of the god in the temple of Zeus is an example of such arts.
The artists created attractive and naturalistic paintings using marble. The idea behind this artistic work was to portray the beauty of humans. The struggle to promote the independent entity of humans drove them into making these paintings. The Ancient Greeks believed that the noble and civilized men suppressed their emotions and logic, but reason should surface even in difficult times (Richard, 1986). The approach “Logic over Emotion” was clearly indicated on the faces of the statues created. Barbarian sculptures demonstrated emotions excessively while the civilized sculptures appeared to be collected and emotionless since they are governed by logic and reason.
Renaissance means rebirth and is the historical art period immediately following Middle Ages in Europe. The artists and scholars showed a great interest to the classical style. Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo are examples of the popular artists in the era.
