Illustration An illustration is a writing pattern which uses examples to show, explain, or prove a point. For this type of writing, there is going to be a main point which the writing is trying to illustrate. The writer does this by giving examples and giving lots of details to support the examples. There should also be enough examples to really reinforce the main point. Teaching Students to Count Rationally from Ten to Twenty Although most children begin elementary school with some knowledge of numbers from their everyday life experiences, learning numbers and learning to count is a process that must be prioritized for kindergarten and first grade students. The goal of this instruction is for students to become rational counters; a student who can assign a name to a number value in the proper order (Reys, et al., 2012, p. 141). There are four principles that can be taught in order to guide students to become rational counters at an early point in their education, which will form the basis for all other mathematics instruction throughout their educations. These principles are one to one correspondence, the stable order rule, the order irrelevance rule, and the cardinality rule. For the remainder of this essay, steps for teaching these principles as well as examples will be explored, on the basis of teaching ten first graders, who can already rationally count to ten, learn to count rationally to fifteen.
Reading Recovery is an intervention program designed to address the needs of first grade students who score in the lowest percentile on achievement tests in reading and writing. The program provides one-to-one tutoring, administered in the normal school day by a specialized teacher. Specially trained teacher leaders provide training for RR teachers and the training program awards the trainee graduate-level credits at major universities (RR Website). The RR training is aimed at improving the teachers’ theory of how children learn, as well as, the teachers’ strategies for teaching. Upon identification as a candidate for the Reading Recovery program, students are giving additional instruction in reading and writing through daily 30-minute sessions for approximately 16-20 weeks.

There is also still time do additional prewriting in order to fill any gaps or add more sustenance to the material. The writer will also need to write his/her thesis statement and decide where to place that statement within the essay. Once they are done developing a thesis it still needs to be supported with relevant evidence.
