Schlosser then goes into discussing the callous illegal immigrant labor that takes place in strawberry fields of California. He doesn’t primarily focus on one individual case; however, the detail of the harsh work and living environments leave a lasting mental image of what the workers had to endure to make a measly buck. The final essay in Schlosser’s book discusses the founder of the pornography industry, Reuben Sturman, and the many trials and tribulations the U.S. government brought upon him. All three of Schlosser’s essays put the U.S. government in the forefront, showing all the ways that government intervention did not seem to be in the best interest of society. Reefer Madness The first focus of Schlosser’s book spotlights on the booming business in marijuana cultivation.
Our country is currently experiencing a massive debt, and I do not think it is appropriate solely looking at the issue in a factual manner that we allow illegal immigrants into our society or work place. Another major response to this issue is that these illegal immigrants are doing extremely beneficial work in the United States that many others will not do, and if we prohibit them from doing so than much of that work may not get done. However, just because these illegal immigrants are willing to do this hard work for next to nothing in potentially dangerous working conditions does not make it okay for us to allow them to do it. Not only do possibly dangerous and unsafe working conditions impose harm
Finally, President Obama wants to prevent the exploitation of illegal immigrants by giving employers a dependable way to verify citizenship status (“Immigration Reform”). I am in favor of this reform because I do not believe people coming to this country in search of a better life should be punished because of our inadequate immigration
Fixing Illegal Immigration in the United States Illegal immigration has been a problem in the U.S. for many years. Many would argue that illegal immigrants should be removed from our country, or become a legal citizen. Illegal immigrants have also caused lots of problems in the U.S. There are many ways that illegal immigrants can, and should be dealt with in the United States. A good plan to get rid of illegal immigrants in the U.S. will remove illegal immigrants in a very feasible way, and would not cost our country a fortune.
There are many things that need to be fixed about America, many of those is Illegal immigrants, welfare, obesity. These are the major problems of the United States that I see in my eyes. Illegal immigrants are the most important ones for me. I think people from all around the country should be able to come into America and live here as long as there working and that there should not be any kind of boarders or boundaries for those people who want to come and make a better future out of them. For example there has been alot of people coming from Mexico, Cuba, France, and Canada because they want to come into the United States either for its freedom or better opportunity and sometimes even because of a better life style.
The Mexican Drug Wars which have brutally caused harm to the people of Mexico are spilling over into the United States through the entrance of illegal immigrants. Contrary to common belief, the threat of violence has infiltrated the country beyond just the bordering states. Violence from Mexican gang members has reached areas as far from the border as Anchorage, Alaska (Caldwell 1). This is a serious threat to all U.S. citizens and could be avoided if the entrance of illegal immigrants could be ended. The Arizona immigration law would be instrumental in helping to keep illegal immigrants out of the United States especially because, “Arizona and Atlanta are seeing the worst of the violence because they are major drug distribution hubs thanks to their webs of interstate highways,” (Caldwell 2).
Policy needs to address the need the economy has for the undocumented workers in the U.S. and find a way to authorize their presence. Deporting all of them is not a realistic solution, as it would cost too much. As long as they are contributing to the economy and not involved in criminal enterprises, there should be a more realistic approach to obtaining legal
The U.S. Border Patrol Abstract The Mexican border poses a significant threat to the United States from international terrorism, drug and gun smuggling, and undocumented aliens. With the high number of drugs being smuggled from Mexico into the United States Law Enforcement Agencies throughout the United States are maxed out with the use of their resources to interdict the drugs before they are sold or used on the streets. The drugs that are interdicted are just a fraction of what actually makes it across the border. One specific threat is the profits from drug sales end up funding or supporting terror groups or individuals. Another issue that is very alarming is the Jihadist materials found along the Mexico/U.S.
Un-harmful Immigration Immigrants were a fundamental part of this nation, as the United States arose as a country it brought several immigrants with it. Immigrants shaped the United States, these same immigrants fought for the equal rights said the United States to have. But why is it that today laws want to be and have been input to our nation which violate human rights such as the Arizona SB Bill 1070? Do immigrants in reality harm the U.S. as many believe? These immigrants in fact do not harm the United States unless they are criminals.
First off, this would increase illegal immigration. If immigrants from other countries see that illegal immigrants in the US can get citizenship, then they are just going to come here illegally rather than wait for the long hard process of legal immigration. Second, we would be rewarding criminals. People living in the United States have to pay for there crimes, should illegal immigrants too? By giving undocumented immigrants citizenship we would be rewarding criminals.
