I tried a few classes here and there and it was something that seemed to be a temporary thing to occupy time. I was young and didn’t realize what college was going to mean to my adulthood challenges. After finally accepting a full time job that could lead to a career for some time it became clear that college would have been a good choice for me to have been successful. I quickly began to attend college classes through my employer to make gains in my career and try to possibly secure my future.
When I told my mom that I had decided to go back to school she was very proud of me and told me that I can do it as long as I tried hard enough. I want to get a better education so I can get a good job and am able to give my family the things they need as well as want. When it comes to getting an education I want to be the one to set a good example for my family. If I was able to do it all over again I would have went to college right after I graduated from school. I am willing to give up my spare time to set a good example for my family by going to college.
Carla Wright My Return to School English Composition 1 Denya Cuiffo October 14, 2013 When we attend college as adults, we have expectations of what college will be or will not be. I decided to go back to school for quite a few reasons. The main factors for my returning to school includes my family and stability also plays big role in my returning to school. My reasons for going back to school is to gain communication skills, become a good role model for my children, if I decide to have any, gain independence and seek profitable employment that would be profitable for me. My father has always been my support system in my return to school.
It has helped me with the debt that I had prior to returning to school. This started off being the main reason why I decided to return to school but I saw the bigger picture and that was me getting a college degree and making a better life my children. So for me, it is all worth it in the end. While trying to pursue my degree, I know there will be many obstacles in the way such as unsupportive peers and being able to maintain good grades. Some of the strategies are to make sure I study all material as much as I can and turn all assignments in a timely manner.
I wanted to obtain my degree to be somebody that my kids could look up to. I wanted to lead by example, we often don’t realize that showing our kids its possible and telling them makes a big difference. I want them to see that as a mom I was capable of doing it and balancing work, school and caring for them and obtaining a degree is possible. Wanting a career and not a job was always possible but the difference in the two was that I needed a college education. Obtain my degree would allow me to achieve my goals in life.
It is a proven fact that earning a degree will open doors for me in the future. I will have the career that I have always dreamt of. Once I start my career my finances will become more abundant and stabilized; It will give me the empowerment to provide a better life. So, 3 years later here I am, attending Ashford University working on my BS degree in Social Science and enjoying it. I realized that college is very important and receiving my degree can help me get that great job I have always wanted. I know that college is right for me. I love being in college. I got negative and positive feedback from family and friends, saying that I was too old, I waited too long and that I had my nephew, but I had made up my mind that I was going to do this, for me and my nephew so that we can live comfortably one day.
