Megan’s Talk 7-13 Obedience I am going to start out with a scripture from D&C 93:24, 26-28. It says, “The spirit of truth is of God, and no man can receiveth the fullness unless he keepeth his commandments. He that keepeth God’s commandments recieveth truth and light, until he is glorified in truth and knoweth all things.” Our Heavenly father has given us the commandments to guide us and to protect us. Being obedient is doing God’s will. He knows what is best for us and he doesn’t want us to get hurt, so obeying His commandments will save us a lot of grief in the long run.
“Alexander, with a word of thanks for the gift, took the helmet and, in full view of his troops, poured the water on the ground,” (Document D, page 257). This showed the soldiers that the water shouldn’t have been given to Alexander just because he was king, and that any man had the same right to drink the water just as much as he did. Alexander was willing to bear the same torment as his soldiers, because he knew it would give them the strength to keep going. This is a moral that many other men/women would have trouble following. War strategy was a second reason for Alexander’s greatness.
He hoped his colony would serve as a model for all other societies. He wanted the society to be a very tight knit community, always keeping God at the center. Everyone should “rejoice together, mourn together, labor and suffer together,” to keep the unity of the spirit in the bond of peace. He didn’t want religious faith forced on anyone, but for it to happen naturally by the hope and faith of the people themselves. Winthrop refers to them as a “city on a hill”, meaning that they will be unable to hide their failures from anyone.
However the one thing he desired most that money could never buy was his love and passion for Daisy. Gatsby believed that he could win the love of the woman he longed for by showering her with materialistic items. Tom also took great pride in his earnings and believed he was a better man because of them. He exclaims, “Now don’t think my opinion on this matter is final just because I’m stronger and more of a man than you are” (Fitzgerald). He, along with Gatsby feels content with the unnecessary materialistic items that he owns.
-- Stephen Covey If one advances confidently in the direction of his dreams, and endeavors to live the life, which he has imagined, he will meet with a success unexpected in common hours. -- Henry David Thoreau Your success and happiness lie in you. External conditions are the accidents of life; it’s outer trapping. The great, enduring realities are love of service. Joy is the holy fire that keeps our purpose warm and our intelligence aglow.
The war gives Gatsby an opportunity to see the world and earn money in the service. Gatsby did “extraordinarily well in the war. He was a captain before he went to the front, and following the Argonne battles he got his majority and the command of the divisional machine guns” (150). A war hero, as any man would call it, he was truly someone whom any soldier would seek to for guidance and for help if they needed it. Gatsby, however, did not realize that with the ending of the war, his prestige would end as well.
Buddhists believe all human life is precious and that all living beings are interconnected through his preciousness and that sooner or later truth will prevail and violence and hostility will loose. I think what he meant by this is life is precious so everyone should not take it for granted and thank god for everyday that they are alive and that violence and hostility will loose by this because being thankful for something and not taking something for granted will rule hostility and violence and no one would even think to be violent because everyone would be
Just because we are not in the same continent or country as them, they are still are brothers and the hate mongering and hatred acts towards them are a feeling of unhappiness scene al around the world. We are lucky to be able to worship are god they way we want to without any compromise. We owe most of this to the Crusades and the will power they showed that we are free to love and believe or worship any god we
I have known her” (115). John does not want to tell the court about his sin though, he does it for the purpose of protecting Elizabeth from Abigail’s untruthfulness. This feeling is displayed when he says,”...A man will not cast away his good name. You surely know that” (115). What Proctor means by this that no man would blacken his own name without having a reason for doing so.
John Steinbeck. 1993) George explains to slim why Lennie is not a mean person; he tries his best to prevent Lennie from getting into any kind of trouble because he is advocate of Lennie. George prevents Lennie from getting into any kind of trouble this is also evident all over the text for instance when George warns Lennie of the things he should do and stay out of ‘Don’t you even look at that bitch...You leave her be.’ George warns Lennie of things he should stay out of such as Curley’s wife because he tries everything to make it easier for the both of them. He is advocate and he is used to having Lennie around all the time that it’s become a habit for George to help Lennie when he is in trouble. All in all this shows that he is an
