In Philip Meyers article, “If Hitler Asked You to Electrocute a Stranger, Would You?” A social psychologist named Stanly Milgram, working at Yale at the time, put his theory on obedience to the test. Milgram uses cause and effect to find his theory. Milgram uses actors to act a scene where the “ learner’ gets electrocuted by the “teacher” to show obedience to the authority figure. In addition, in Milgram’s theory of obedience, he uses “teachers,” which are the “subject” to authority.

Research Analysis: Pleasure in Mass Executions During World War II, there were thousands of young men who lined up to serve their great country of Germany, unaware of Adolf Hitler’s plans for mass execution. In 1968, U.S. soldiers defended their action of opening fire to hundreds of unarmed civilians, by stating that they were given an order. Psychologists have been studying humans’ natural willingness to administer outrageous treatments. Stanley Milgram and Philip G. Zimbardo both held experiments to study the effects of obedience to authority. Herbert C. Kelman and V. Lee Hamilton write about the My Lai Massacre, and the striking similarities to Milgram and Zimbardo’s experiments.
This experiment identified whether people would commit acts of inhumanity to another human or animal just because they were told to do so by an authority figure (Banyard, 2012). In Milgrams obedience study 40 people were set up to administer what they believed to be potentially lethal electric shocks to actors (Banyard, 2012). Participants had been deceived into believing this to be a study on memory function. All subjects, at the request of a man in a white coat, administered shocks, which they believed to be up to 300 volts, beyond which dose the recipient became silent, presumed to be dead (Banyard, 2012). Milligrams experiment revealed that ordinary people are obedient to authority when asked to behave in an inhumane way (Banyard, 2012, P76).

12 Angry Men is a 1957 American drama film. This film is about 12 jurors debating in a very hot and uncomfortable room about an 18 yr old boy who has been accused of stabbing and killing his father. Juror #8 the assumed “protagonist” test the well know police statement, “Innocent until proven guilty.” As they deliberate for hours, different jurors’ characteristics start to appear and begin to bump heads. In this paper, the plot, characters, ideas/thoughts/themes, language/dialog, music and spectacle will be described. The characters in this film were very diverse and were from so many different walks of life.
