I was continually drained mentally and felt weak and out of it physically. I had a hard time thinking straight, putting together cohesive thoughts. I was very melancholy. Reading the definition for distress, I really think that is where I was. I had this happen a few years later when I was in a job I did not like, with a boss I did not like.
Clients, have the capacity to find their own solutions to most problems they are faced with, clients often just need an environment where they are able to express themselves freely. This, to me was different to what I thought I knew and experienced about counseling. I suppose I felt this way due to how counseling is portrayed by the public, media and my friends and family. After reading all the materials for week one, I spoke to a close friend who was going through a very tough personal situation and would often call me distressed. I would usually just agree with her and tell her what I would do if I was in her situation.
The initial consultation with the client, before therapy, is an important aspect of the whole procedure as this will assist in forming the basis of the therapy and for the client and the therapist to ask questions. The initial consultation is a time for the therapist to explain what hypnosis is to the client and answer any questions that may arise. It’s important for the therapist to begin gathering information on the client from the moment they first walk through the door. It gives the therapist an opportunity to establish a rapport with the client and gain their confidence. The establishment of rapport is the most important objective of the consultation and many believe that the success of the therapy depends upon it.
The initial consultation can be a very powerful tool for both the client and the hypnotherapist (Allen P Roger 2004). First impressions will be formed during the initial conversation between the client and the hypnotherapist. It is where the client can tell the hypnotherapist about themselves and can also learn about the hypnotherapist therefore leading the client to decide whether hypnotherapy is the right cause of action for them. Potential clients may be hesitant, nervous, and or sceptical about the idea of hypnosis (Allen P Roger 2004). They may have certain preconceptions of hypnotism from how it is often portrayed in the media and for entertainment purposes etc and so the initial consultation enables the therapist to walk the client through the processes involved in hypnotherapy and to explain how it can help the client and hopefully alleviate any fears that the client may have so that the client feels comfortable and safe (Allen P Roger 2004)..
In which of the examples would have the client benefited from an independent advocate and why? 1.1,1.2,1.4,1.6,3.1,5.4. Examples: 1. I am supporting a client that find it difficult to express himself and whom is challenged with mental ill-health of duo diagnosis. He has a low self esteem and feels suspicious but part of the treatment/approach recommended to help him gain his confidence is by integrating with his community.
Mentoring is still different from coaching because in coaching, it is strictly a coach-client relationship. In mentoring, mentors can be your parents, your favorite teacher, and other people who had a huge impact in your life. You seek for their guidance to help you fulfil a part of your life. You can rely on them about professional matters and also the personal ones. Counseling compared to psychotherapy, has a shorter term of treatment and treats a specific problem or issue.
The problem with my pseudo thinking is that when it comes time for me to have a response I have no clue what was said during the conversation because the only thing I focused on was the topic of discussion. My defensive listening has put me in bad situations with many people, mostly with my wife, I lash out at people because I feel threatened and with my lack of attention I miss parts of the conversation, and that makes it that much more like I am being attacked. Everyone can increase attention by realizing its importance, avoiding the common tendency to day dream, fighting the tendency to give in to
But when he raised his query about dynamics of events he encountered other lacks: first of all Mr Hoffner’s weak willingness to handle his customer’s complaint, but also his own incompetence in trying to repair that issue. Now the question is: where Presto Cleaner should push itself about handling complaints? Mr Hoffner, basing on what Mr Shelton asks, assessed the damage more than $200. It may be too much only if there wasn’t any customer care. Providing a high-quality service has its risks, mostly being less cheap than competitors, so keeping your own customers loyal is very important.
They assume that I should be just as able-bodied as them since they can’t “see” my disability and use oppressive words like lazy and ‘no good for nothing’ which only leads to further denigration of an already awful feeling. It also makes me feel even more isolated and alone because I internalize the oppression and my negative self-talk continues to tell me that I am the only one who truly understands. This form of oppression is what stopped me from reaching out to get help for my mental illness for many years. The stigma (negative stereotype) of mental illness which we are often led to believe through outlets like the media, caused me to fear what others may think about me and so I didn’t speak to anyone about my mental health until it was so unmanageable that I had to be hospitalized. Before that, I lived many years with the debilitating symptoms of depression and anxiety without any medical or therapeutic intervention.
However, after each answer I was receiving from the patient, when I stopped to thing of something else to ask, I felt more and more anxious. At some point there was a pause so long that it really became awkward for me, and, perhaps, for my partner and the patient. All I could think about was what to ask next. And when I left the patient’s room, I was not satisfied with how my interaction went, to say the least. To be more truthful, I felt like an idiot who could not make up a few words for a question.
