Identify and consider the contribution of Narrative Criticism to the study of Luke’s Gospel Introduction: Narrative criticism is a text centred for of criticism which looks at Luke’s Gospel holistically with structure, plot and character and has contributed greatly to the study of Luke's gospel as it allows the reader to better understand and connect with the gospel without needing any theological or historical knowledge of the Gospel. It allows the reader to enter the narrative world created by the author, this helps them to more deeply connect with the work as the author intended it. One of the great pioneers for this form of biblical criticism was Robert C Tannehill. contributes +’s: > helps the reader to connect with work as it has a sole interest in the gospels finial form and its respect for the literary independence and integrity come as welcome correctives to the short comings of the historical approaches > it focuses on the text and narrative of the story rater than the pre-history which can cause people to doubt the work, this is good because the pre-history is seen by some as not important to the study of the gospel as it distracts from the true meaning which can be found in the actual story. >it also contributes greatly to the understanding of luke’s gospel because it practices studying the text holistically rather than in isolated passages which can cause the over all narrative to lose its emphasis as it can become disjointed when each individual section is scrutinised alone. > it has contributed to the study of likes gospel by pointing out the flaws in other methods of biblical criticism such as form as this allows the reader to submerge themselves in the actual narrative and so get a better understanding and perspective on the text and actual meanings behind them.
