Addition, author shows that people were complain about taking off of their shoes, buckles, and coats. Also, author tells the behavior detection officers that passengers were complaining about. TSA have great points about the new technology that I respect them. Likewise, the passenger would need to feel safely in the airplane. That is why TSA setup new technology which is help you protect from the bomb.
Sitz has to do with the police having the right to have checkpoints to catch people drinking and driving. The court reasoned that checkpoints are designed to eliminate immediate hazards posed by intoxicated drivers. This ruling may not seem substantially important to policing at first glance, but I feel keeping the public safe is a top priority for the police. These checkpoints enable the police to temporarily detain people who are, at that moment, a very serious threat to the public. The checkpoints have probably saved thousands of lives and this would not be possible if the police could only check for intoxication after someone has violated the law.
The World Without Secrets Visible Man: Ethics in a world without secrets, by Peter Singer, is an essay about Singers view on the positive and negative conditions of privacy and secrecy within the United States government. Singer discusses a government’s confidentiality and the leaking of its information, whether it would be for the better or worse. He begins his article with the modern day government and comparing it to a “Panopticon”. A “Panopticon” is a huge circular building designed like a prison watchtower to keep track of people and their doings. This idea was to explain how people all over the world are being watched nowadays.
Controls need to be in place to prevent fraud and error from occurring. The number of vendors a company purchases goods or supplies from should be limited. Repeat purchases from the same vendors and suppliers will provide routine transactions that are much easier to track and will provide a faster cycle time. Using the same vendors will provide familiarity of the company to the vendor allowing more accurate quantity. When the vendor is familiar with the needs of the company it will reduce fraud and the number of transactions, which will make purchasing goods easier to track.
They lied about getting a warrant and in turn let a killer walk away from the situation with no punishment. Like I said previously if they would have used the ethics of virtue system they would have went about things in an honest manner and even though it might not have saved the life of Detective Griffiths it would have put his killer in jail. Ethics training for our officers is very important to maintain order (Papenfuhs,2011). However, when really spending some time and thinking about this situation I wish our legal system could in some way take into account the pressure we put on cops and when we know for an absolute fact a serious crime as been committed that the criminal could still be punished regardless of the mistakes of cops. I don’t think the people should be able to get off that easy simply because of a legal mishap and in fact disgusts me that his has happens numerous times every year.
The authors continue to explain the act had nothing to do with fighting terrorism to its core but rather it rolled back the unwanted checks on power the FBI had. The provisions the patriot act had were: easy to access records, expansion of the “pen register” exception in wiretap law, expansion of the intelligence exception in the wiretap law, and more secret searches. Easy to access records give the power of forcing anyone to hand over records on customers including financial records, medical history, internet usage, and travel patterns. The expansion of the “pen register” explains that the FBI does not need probable cause to perform a wiretap. Expansion of intelligence refers to the power of the government not needing to justify a wiretap or physical search.
I know what they do is for the benefit of everyone in this country and it is extremely hard to make the decision’s that is going to affect the way we live and how we live. This documentary relates to foreign policy to the different branches of government and how every decision is made. This relates to private parties like the ACLU to protect our civil liberties that were lost as a result of policies that expand the government’s power to invade people’s privacy and right to the First Amendment. It made clear that certain things that were unlawful like racial profiling and stopping anyone under suspicion was “ok.” Top Secret America is one of the many examples of what we do not know about our government. We do not take the time to pay attention to what is happening in this economy.
Although not technically necessary, following this step eliminates all possibility that the shoplifter still intends to pay for the stolen product. A few courts have held that detaining someone for shoplifting inside a retail store does not establish the criminal intent of theft. However, in several states shoplifters can be detained once they have concealed the merchandise. When approaching a shoplifter outside of the store always have a least one trained employee as a witness. There is safety in numbers and most shoplifters will cooperate if they believe fighting or running is futile.
This can reduce delays since documents can be exchanged and lodged electronically which will speed up the discovery stage in civil pre-trail procedures. Extending court hours can help reduce delays as it will allow getting more cases into
A criminal or potential criminal will not volunteer this information willingly. This also falls into a civil matter where one does not have to provide personal information because it is a violation of one’s privacy, according to the Constitution. The chances of an identifier being incorrect are almost zero because each person has a distinct value or trait, making it hard to deny. Finger- printing and hand scans are accurate and distinct and require very little computer space this also provides access for many law enforcement officers to deal with unresolved case. Retina or iris scans are high in accuracy for identifying a person but is not commonly used among identifying criminals.
