The movie changed organizationally: Randall McMurphy was not the same character as portrayed in the exquisite novel. There was quite a big impact that the biological determinates had on Big Mike’s health and development. It was evident that Big Mike was quite a large build making him look over weight but this was due to genetics as they alter a person’s body structure. Genetic impact were also seen when comparing him to his class mates as he was so much larger and taller than them. His hormones play role in his body weight because they are the chemical changes that occur to him during his stage of development affecting his health also. Compared to SJ you can see that Big Mike’s development is very different to the smaller much skinnier SJ.

This is the problem young Amy Tan faces as she grows up in Oakland, CA. A city populated with Caucasians, fourteen-year old Tan faces a dilemma when she falls for the minister’s son who is Caucasian. Tan realizes that this handsome boy is the person she’s looking for and that maybe he’ll be attracted to her if she were to have a slim nose just like the Caucasian girls, considering the fact that Tan had a not so slim nose. “I prayed for this blond-haired, Robert, and a slim new American nose” (92). Jamie Santa Cruz wrote an article published on March 10th 2014 in The Atlantic called Body-Image Pressure Increasingly Affects Boys. She describes how today’s adolescent boys are facing the same body image issues as the girls their same age, without being noticed by professionals or parents. Cruz’s research suggests that 1 in 4 adolescent boys have a body image issue. I never would have thought so many boys would have body image issues. Cruz understands that today’s media not only targets girls to be altar thin, but also puts a great emphasis on a man looking impossibly muscle.
