IBAN Iban are branch of Dayak peoples of Borneo (Sarawak). The population is concentrated in Sarawak, Brunei, and west of kalimatan Indonesia. They live in ‘longhouses’ called ‘rumah panjai’. Most of iban’s ‘rumah panjai’ are complete with facilities such as electricity, water supply, telephone and etc. However, Iban’s today are becoming increasingly urbanised while retaining most of their traditional heritage and culture. Here are some of Iban’s cultures that still alive and used by the people. Food: Manok pansuh. This is steamed chicken where they cook using bamboo. It’s a traditional dishes either eats as daily dish, or during festival. Tebaloi is a made by sago. Sometimes tebaloi can replace with rice. Kek lapis Sarawak, is very popular during Gawai festival. It is the main dish during the festival. The selling of Kek Lapis have also achieve international as the decorations are unique and hard to find. Laksa Sarawak, is popular spicy noodles soup. Kolok mee, is also popular foods in Sarawak it serve with chicken, beef or pork. ‘Air tuak’, is rice wine. It is very popular during festival. Sometimes young boy teenagers need to attend to competition in their longhouse (rumah panjai). They need to drink ‘air tuak’ for every house as their check point and who can drink more is the winner. Apparently, it is also as a welcome for the guest during the festival. Attire: ‘Sirat’, is a scarf that usually used by man. They wrap their bottom body parts. It is tradition clothes for any festivals. ‘Pantang’ (tattoos). ‘Pantang’ are also considering as attire for the Iban’s people. Most of the people there, men and women does tattoos.
