Conflict certainly exposes the true qualities of a person that might have been kept deep inside never to be revealed, however due to the pressure of a bad situation the ‘real’ person is displayed. McCarthyism has been shown in the play “The Crucible”, which was practiced by Abigail. McCarthyism is paranoia and finding scapegoats and blaming innocent people for things they did not do. Many lives were ruined because of this. In the Crucible, Abigail is tormented by the fact that she had been caught out having an affair with John Proctor.

Edna wanted this lifestyle to be her ownself and not live as someone she did not want to be such as M.Rag the way that society intended on her living. -M.R decision in life was to she have her own independence/identity. She lived the life she wanted to live which to Edna seemed like the "good life". M.R lifestyle choice had a cost from not having a nice house to nice clothes everything that Edna had. Having the indpendence Edna wanted would cost her the lavicous lifestyle she once knew.
“ The syntax of this part of the story shows that the author is trying to explain the character of Prynne and then compare it to what people believe she would look like. This is important because what it shows is that Prynne is not what the people seem to believe. The sin committed by Prynne, had an effect on her that was very different then the effect of the sin on Dimmesdale and Chillingworth. The effect of the sin on Prynne was very hurtful but the way she took the pain was by doing well in society again and by working and proving that the Scarlett Letter was nothing more than a letter. For a large majority of the story, the Scarlett Letter meant Adultery, but as time changed the letter a meant able.
