Hybrid Vehicles Are hybrid cars worth buying? As gas fluctuates, it’s fair for us to think that the price is slowly going to go up for the time being. Whether we drive a gas-gulping SUV or even a hybrid car, the concern for gas consumption remains constant. I think with the gas prices being so high, many people will start buying hybrid vehicles, and will not make any effort to research the facts that come with owning one. Some may say that hybrids are beneficial to the economy but they leave out the high costs, safety issues, and difficulties that come with buying a hybrid vehicle. The high cost of owning a hybrid vehicle is outrageous, you have to buy a very expensive battery, car charger, and you can’t forget maintenance on the vehicle, when it comes time to repair it. The price of owning a hybrid car is shocking, it can range anywhere from $30,000 to $45,000, and can even cost over $110.000 for some of the most advanced models (All Data Base). If you think this price is fair for this type of vehicle, wait until you have to replace the batteries, because once the car battery ages it will hold less charge, meaning the battery will die faster, and eventually you will have to replace the battery packs, or you may have to buy a new car. These batteries cost anywhere from $3,000 to $8,000 (Auto.Serv.pg. 329). Keep in mind these battery may only last up to four years, and it’s not only one battery that you have to buy, it’s more like 28 to 38 batteries in a pack. Now you have to buy a hybrid charging station (car charger), which can cost $1,000 to $4,000, plus your electric bill will increase dramatically, because you have to plug these high tech chargers into the wall (All Data Base).
