Humor in the Workplace The video “We Like Sportz” by The Lonely Island suits the purpose of humor orientation in the workplace because it compliments workplace ethics and values such as decency, encourages employees to be social with each other, and promotes team work. “We Like Sportz” promotes decency by presenting content that will probably be accepted by all employees. The two actors in the video are decently dressed and also discuss a socially acceptable concept; sports. In the recent years, many companies have launched fitness programs for their employees with many encouraging Total Worker Health. A funny video on the topic of sports, thus, benefits the company by promoting fitness activities which are essential in health protection and health promotion in the workplace. Additionally, the relationship between the two actors encourages employees to be social with each other reducing inhibition in the workplace. Throughout the video, the actors communicate with each other and appreciate each other. In one instance, one of the actors tells the other than he is the team’s captain and he has chosen him to be a player and the other person reiterates this comment (The Lonely Island 1:30-34). Lastly, the topic of sports and the overall video supports team work through the interdependence of players and the actors, respectively. The success and humor of the video is exhibited in the actors’ ability to work as a team. The actors emphasize on the existence of teams; even in games such as tennis by bringing out the role of playing doubles. This teamwork effect will encourage employees to rely on each other, thus, better communication and problem-solving skills in the workplace.
