Humans call Sol home, what is Sol you may ask well it is our solar system. Sol consists of the Sun; eight planets, at least three dwarf planets, there is more than 130 satellites of these planets, huge amounts of small bodies i.e. comets and asteroids. The inner part of our system contains the Sun, Mercury, Venus, Earth and Mars. The main asteroid belt lies between the orbits of Mars and Jupiter and separate is the inner Sol from outer Sol. Outer system contains Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune (sadly, Pluto was voted down to dwarf planet status). The first thing I notice when looking at a map of our solar system is that it is mostly empty space. The planets are very small compared to the space between them. Composition of the planets in Sol system are as follows; Mercury, Venus, Earth, and Mars are terrestrial or rocky planets composed primarily of rock and metal have relatively high densities, slow rotation, solid surfaces, no rings and few satellites. Jovian or Gas Giants of Sol system are as follows; Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune. These planets are composed primarily of hydrogen and helium and generally have low densities, rapid rotation, deep atmospheres, rings and many satellites. Our location in the galaxy is estimated, to be 26,000 to 28,000 light years away from galactic center. This is due to varying estimations of the exact size and time it takes our solar system to complete one orbit of our galaxy. So best guess we are located in Orion’s Arm. Also, in case you are wondering how long it takes our solar system to complete a single orbit of our galaxy it is estimated to take 200 to 250 million
