Three communication approaches that I would chose to use to complete this assignment are: E-mail, in person, and phone. I chose in person because I wanted to get a feel for the person that I was interviewing and be able to connect with them and their passion about the work that they do so that I can view similarities that we have as it relates to me making human services a profession of mine. I interviewed Mrs. Lois Hunt who is a Social Worker with a nonprofit agency called Growing Homes Southeast. Her agency is funded by Medicaid which is a governmental agency. It is also funded by service fees and individuals who have a particular interest in assisting with this type of organization. The questions that I asked Mrs. Hunt are: 1. What is human services in your opinion? 2. What made you decide to get into human services/social work? 3. What is your job title and function in human services? 4. What’s the salary like for a human service professional? 5. In your position tell me some of the ups and downs of your job. 6. What is your case load like? 7. What are some of the things your agency does to promote community awareness? 8. Working with children with behavioral issues what are some of the tools you use when working with them? 9. What other services are offered by your agency? 10. Do you find your job in this profession to be rewarding? Mrs. Hunt gave a personal account on why she decided to go into the human services field and said that she wanted to be in a profession that was rewarding. The way she defined human services is an opportunity to make someone’s life better by the service that she provides. She indicated that her first year of college she was still undecided about the direction she wanted to go in but learned fairly quickly that she wanted to work with people and offer them help and that led her to a career
