TOPIC: Strategic Human Resource Management (SHRM) emphasizes the need for Human Resource (HR) plans and strategies to be formulated within the context of overall organizational strategies and objectives, and to be responsive to the changing nature of an organization’s external environment. What is the relationship between SHRM business strategies and HRM functions? Identify a company or organization that does this well or poorly and use it to illustrate your arguments. In this essay I will be assessing the relationship between SHRM business strategies and HRM functions. I will also be using Frost incorporated as an example of an org¬¬¬¬anization that has adopted HR strategies and functions and illustrate this within my arguments. As stated in the topic, SHRM emphasizes a need for HR objectives to work in coordination with the context of the overall goals and strategies of the organization itself. An important factor to be considered with the coupling of these two objectives is that these policies and strategies need to be receptive and adaptable to the fluctuating nature of an organizations exterior environment. Hence, in the first part of this essay I will be discussing SHRM business strategies, followed by characteristics of HRM functions and finalizing their relationship in the third section of this essay. Lastly, I will conclude with summarizing the key elements of the relationship between SHRM strategies and HRM functions in relation to Frost incorporated. SHRM is a resourceful purpose that is able to cope with environmental changes and overlooks firm structure (Wei et al. 2011). As Martin-Alcazar (cited in Nankervis et al. 2011, p.19) states SHRM is the combined set of practices, policies and strategies that aid organizations in managing their human capital, influenced by business strategy.
