Human Resource Management Mary O’Dell BUS 303 Human Resources Management Instructor: Niccolle Johnson February 12th, 2012 Human Resource Management This paper will cover all the areas of HRM and how they affect the everyday business in ever company and will cover which one of these areas are the most important and why. Will provide and examples and personal experiences where ever possible. The goals of human resource management are to maximize the productivity of the company by effectiveness of its employees as valuable resources. In order to do tis they have to promote personal development, employee satisfaction, and compliance with employment-related laws. To achieve a good relationship between employer and employee, the HRM department needs to focus on three general functions or activities: planning, implementation, evaluation. The planning function of the department refers to the development of human resource policies and regulations. The implementation of the department plan involves four primary activities: acquisition, development, compensation, and maintenance. Acquisition entails the hiring of employees most likely to help the company to reach its goals. The development function deals with the training of employees to perform their tasks in accordance with company strategy. This also involves the company efforts to control and change employees attitudes via reviews, appraisals, incentives and discipline. Compensation covers the wages of employees for the work that they do. Maintenance requires structuring labor relations the interaction between the managers and its unionized employees and ensuring compliance with federal and state employment laws. (Golembiewski 1978).
