Abstract The purpose of this paper is to explore the organizational impact of a variety of important promotion systems commonly practiced in Bangladeshi organizations including merit-based systems and seniority-based systems. As all companies want profit so merit-based promotion system is the best suited for that purpose. Merit-based promotion system makes better deployment of resources at the high level. Merit works as golden handcuff concerning employee turnover. Capable employees are motivated to do their best and add to the organizational effectiveness. Merit system encourages the employees to obtain new knowledge/skill for all round development.
