Human Love and Hate

Humans have a wide array of emotions! The most complex of our emotions are the feelings of love and hate. We are able to feel compassion, envy, patience and even indifference. All together, the words mentioned may not be noted as a blessing, to some it may be considered a curse. Regardless, it does give us the free will to decide what actions we will take. The basic necessities of human life are commonly described as food, water, and shelter. I find that to be untrue, we are designed to work together as a group, we “need” to feel loved to function. In today’s society, this is all the more evident. We are so desperate to fill that hole in our heart that we don’t even take the time to understand what it is that we are asking for. We’ve seen it everywhere, on TV, in books, at home, but somehow we don’t understand it. We ask ourselves “Why can’t I have my happily ever after.” I believe it is because people today look at love in an impractical way and when it does not match our expectations, we are unprepared to deal with the actuality of it. Human love is the unrealistic expectations of being cared for unconditionally despite reprehensible behavior. Our love, by nature, is not pure but that does not mean we are not capable of giving it. Love is something that is learned over time; it is not an immediate concept we are born with. From a young age, we are taught to play well with others, to respect your elders and to live by the golden rule. While those are all solid values to live by, I think the most important thing to teach our nation’s children is to not only love others but to love for your-self as well. It is a small idea that has a huge impact. If our children are taught to live every day with self-respect, the obstacles that are causing the violence in our society today will disperse. I don’t believe a human being can begin to understand the concept of love
