Effects of Mass Media HUM/186 May 14, 2012 Within the last century there have been a number of breakthroughs when talking about how the media is passed from one individual to another. Not so long ago people were largely dependent on the wired device; being tethered to their homes for the flow of news, entertainment, and communication. In the late 1800’s and very early 1900’s roughly 80 percent of the population in America lived in rural areas; by the 1920’s and 30’s there was a majority of the population that moved inward to the urban development’s where the future of economic opportunities was to enticing to pass on. and merged the two companies’ technologies into one that could play radio and pre-recorded records. So this trend continues today, everything is connected to the social media networks. The news, sports, entertainment, gaming, even schools are linked to the social network that people are plugged into every day. Constant updates, streaming from every source telling us how we need to shop, think and operate is the convergence that is happening now. We live our lives plugged into every source we deem important, therefore we must know how it will all play out, what will I purchase next, who just died, and where are the conflicts taking place.
