This means that the worker is going to miss out on a large part of communication if he/she is not paying attention to peoples facial and bodily
It is a basic requirement of my job role to communicate with individuals and their families, other members of staff on a daily basis. Communicating with your colleagues is essential for the success of the project especially when supporting people with 24hour care as you need to know what has happened before your shift and to explain when your shift is over to the next staff member. This is also important so that everyone knows what to do in case of an emergency or something that happens unexpectedly. Communication is also vital for the clients as they may have difficulty in understanding or not able to process information easily, this means the team has to find effective ways of communicating with them and making sure they know they can communicate their needs to us as well as their feelings. 2.1 When it comes to communicating and language its everyone’s preference to be communicating or speaking in a way or
Good communication enables individuals needs to be met, it’s a fundamental skill needed to form relationships in and out of the workplace. When people limit their ability to communicate it can cause conflict which can lead to isolation and make people feel anxious. As I work in a home caring for people with varying levels of dementia and Alzheimer’s, meal times are a struggle for some of our residents so this is where we rely on good communication skills to help support them. Some residents talk openly and freely while others lack the ability to hold a conversation, this can make my job more challenging in a way that I then need to keep trying to involve my resident. This is where I will use positive communication skills such as listening, open ended questions and keeping my tone of voice low and soft this can help the resident feel at ease.
In Health and social care, we need good communication skills to develop positive relationships and share information with adults using services. We also need to be able to communicate well with their families and/or other carers and their own colleagues and other professionals who are participating in their life. 1.2 Explain how effective communication affects all aspects of your own work. As a manager it is vital that i support my staff team to achieve and demonstrate desirable outcomes with and for the people they support in whatever capacity.By outcomes I mean the specification of the differences that are intended to result from a given activity. 2. Approaches to outciome based practise should be open and transparent, it should involve all of the people supporting the person and the person should be in the centre of it all. Good communication with service users encourages participation in activities therefore promoting equality within the care setting. The service user can gain the trust and understanding from the care worker and therefore communicate the needs that individual requires. Good communication amongst staff encourages a better working relationship and ensures all tasks are completed to a high standard. Good communication between staff members is important to ensure problems are picked up and solved quickly. Such as an elderly service user having a preference to a bath rather than shower, the service user can then communicate this information effectively to staff and pass this information on to their colleagues.
Some of the reasons people communicate are to express feelings, build relationships, gain understanding, pass on and receive information, share knowledge and opinions and to help us to anticipate and predict behaviour. People communicate to express their needs and desires and understand and be understood and it allows us to understand and predict the behaviours of others and aids us to make decisions and solve problems. We communicate to meet the needs of others and also ourselves. Effective communication is vital in the work setting as we communicate with a variety of people and we need to ensure we pass on information and listen actively to be able to meet the needs of service users and staff. We have to communicate well with colleagues to ensure the smooth running of things, to make sure information is handed over clearly and to avoid confusion and allow continuity of care and minimise risk.
