In order to draw a conclusion about the effectiveness of preventive surgeries, I would need to see a chart of how many people the surgery was a success for and for how many people it had no effect. Based on the average ages, both of these mutations affect older woman. The average age at diagnosis for the BRCA1 mutation is 43.9, while the average age for BRCA2 is 46.2. The women that these mutations effect most likely have already had kids and may have passed the cancer down to their
Planned Parenthood is a government funded clinic that helps teens receive contraception, help with adoption, and perform abortions. Because of the budget cuts that the government is trying to make, Planned Parenthood is one of the first things that is trying to be cut. Even without the government budget cuts, tax payers argue that they do not want their money to be used for abortions for people, and especially teens. But what a lot of tax payers do not realize is that Planned Parenthood is not used just for abortions, but it is used for other things. Planned Parenthood is seen as a vital piece of health care, and if it is cut then that will be contradicting Obama’s current plan for expanding a cheaper healthcare to more
Every day more people die in America than are born. Any increases in population since 1972 have been due to immigration.2 The sociological perils we face are not those of population explosion, but population reduction. The Population Research Institute agrees, and concluded, “Our long-term problem is not too many children, but too few children.”3 The legalization of abortion resulted in a drastic reduction of the number of children in this country. By 1980 there were 6.5 million fewer school-age children in America than just a decade earlier. This required the closing of nine-thousand elementary schools.4 Legalized abortion has resulted in over 46 million fewer taxpayers in America to support the elderly.
For Teenagers who fall pregnant, it is difficult to juggle the insecurities of teenage hood with learning basic parenting skills. As a result, teenage parents often consider abortion. Statistics show that New Zealand has one of the highest teenage pregnancy rates in the world, with around fifty girls in every thousand falling pregnant. Of these pregnancies, about half result in abortion. An advantage of putting a parenting licence in place will be to educate these teenagers on basic parenting skills to qualify them to raise a child, avoiding such abortions.
A case study is examined to illustrate possible approaches to care and personal reflections of the author will be shared regarding issues of teenage pregnancy. In 2009 almost 410,000 infants were born to United States teenage girls between the ages of 15 and 19. Nearly two-thirds of births to women younger than 18 and more than half of those among 18 and 19-year-olds were a result of unintended pregnancies (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2011). This represents a teen birth rate as much as nine times greater than other developed countries and is especially high among black and Hispanic teens in southern states (Vital signs: teen pregnancy, 2011). Those at highest risk of teen pregnancy are girls from single parent homes, families with low socioeconomic status, and girls with a sister who became pregnant as a teenager (Talashek, Alba, & Patel, 2006).

The decline of workers contributing to Social Security means there will be less benefits that will be replaced. Currently the Baby boomers have the highest labor force participation of any generations in American history. (Crain, 2006) The generations following the Baby Boomer generation will not have the numbers to replace the Baby Boomers place in the workforce. According to Crain (2006) nearly 90% of the Baby Boomer generation works, which is over half of the entire workforce in the nation. About 80% of female Baby Boomers worked which was also a contribution to the two income family.
Powerfully Pink: The Story of Susan G. Komen Rory Douthard BA507 July 12, 2014 John Troutman In the United States, breast cancer is the second leading cause of death amongst women. There are over 200,000 new cases reported each year, and so many more that go unreported. Unfortunately, approximately 40,000 women die of this disease, mainly because it was detected too late to change the prognosis. Even with early detection and treatment, which can lead to a positive outcome, breast cancer is more often detected once it has spread to other vital organs, which makes it harder to fight. This trend generally happens with the younger demographic, particularly in younger patients who are premenopausal and don’t have a good understanding of the disease.
Opinions on abortion vary for numerous reasons, but under certain circumstances, abortion may be the most appropriate action to take. “Approximately one-half of the 6.4 million pregnancies in 2001 in the United States were unplanned”(Henshaw, pg 90). That is about three million unplanned pregnancies. “These three million unplanned pregnancies include 1.3 million pregnancies that ended in abortion; 1.4 million live births that women reported were unplanned at the time of conception; and 411,000 miscarriages of unplanned pregnancies” (Henshaw, pg 91). Who really experience these unplanned pregnancies?
Sheila Campbell EN 1420 Comp 2 Dr. Moon September 25, 2014 Abortion has been controversial issue, since the beginning of time. There are two sides: Pro lifer based on culture and religious belief. Pro-choice a woman has a choice to choose whatever she chooses to do with her body. Abortion Should Remain a Woman’s Right According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC),“In 2010 more than 765,000 legally induced abortions were performed and reported from 49 reporting areas for women ages 15-44, with the majority of abortions performed on women in their 20s” (Abortion Surveillance, 2014).
