He argues that if marriage is a procreative unit then state would forbid marriage between those who cannot have children, infertility or by reason of age, as well as those who elect not to (738). Carpenter notes in his article Gay Marriage and Procreation that “individual gay persons can procreate, of course, through means such as artificial insemination and surrogacy arrangements” (para. 3). Carpenter also points out
Discrimination can not only affect the person being discriminated against, it can affect their family, the wider community and the person using the discriminatory behaviour. When people are discriminated against they are denied the same advantages as others, therefore do not have the chance to reach their full potential. Thus, they do not progress or experience success which results in damage to their self-esteem which may dampen their motivation to learn. If they do not learn the required skills needed for certain rules they become excluded. Those who inflict the discrimination are also affected as they have the assumption that people have less value or are inferior to them, which leads them to have a false view/ distorted view of the world.
This reading was about the viewpoints of heterosexuals who feel and question if homosexuality should be eliminated. Many do not feel that this is a way of life, and this reading proved the viewpoints of many who see homosexuality as a disease, immoral, lecherous, or anti-social. Even though those who do not agree or approve with homosexuality, they stand it. Throughout this reading, it talks about how society deals with homosexuality, trying to cure it when, really, society is just making it worse. Society makes it clear their disapproval of homosexuality, but tries to punish it in a way that does not begin to “cure” it at all.
If this is in fact a valuable reason to prevent someone from marrying, then why doesn’t the government create a law banning all women and men who cannot or will not have children from being able to legally marry. It would be funny to see the government try to make us sign a promissory note to ensure our obligation to have at least one child just to make their claim against homosexuality more
Describe the potential effects of discrimination The potential effects of discrimination can be different for different people. The effects can be physical, emotional or a combination of both. For example children with disabilities may not be given a chance to join in with activities due to others thinking that their disability prevents them from being able to do so. This will make the child feel very different from others. I have listed other possible effects below * Long term effects may be: * Loss of motivation * Restricted opportunities * Limited access to services * Long term depression * Increased behavior problems * Difficulty communicating * Lack of education * Lack of achievement The effects listed above are not only ones that affect the individual; they are effects that can be experienced by the individual’s family and friends too.
2. The individual being discriminated against may: be excluded from or miss opportunities and not fulfil their potential, be excluded from certain roles, commit self-harm, have low self-wroth, a confused identity, fear of rejection, have low self-esteem and dampen their motivation to learn. This all means they don’t reach their full potential and are unable to give their full contribution to society as an adult. Those who inflict discrimination are also harmed as their prejudice makes them believe some people are inferior to them, giving them a distorted view on the world. The families and friends of individuals who are discriminated against can be affected in many ways.
1, 2, Societal attitudes and beliefs can impact individuals with sensory loss in quite a negative way because people in society can be very judgmental towards people with disabilities, and put them in a group of people with below average intelligence and assume they can’t do or think the same way as other people without disabilities can. People in society can also be very prejudice and ignorant and think they are better than people with sensory loss, also thinking it gives them the right to make fun at them and making life difficult in the process. Although not all people think the same way there are many other people in society that are very open towards individuals with disabilities and sensory loss and can be very helpful and kind, this can have a positive impact on people’s lives. 1, 3, There are a range of factors that societal attitudes and beliefs impact on service provisions, discrimination is one of the biggest problem in today’s society , people with sensory loss are treated differently, and there a lot of barriers that need to be overcome, service provision is a term used to describe a wide range of activities, including the provision of assistive devices, rehabilitation services, occupational therapy and health services. Although there are a lot of places like this there is still the need to raise awareness so
Actually his whole case involves on what would this would have an effect on children, concerning gay parenthood. According to Bennett, it is assumed that it is far better for a child to be raised by a mother and a father than by, say, two male
Discrimination an act or instance of discriminating, or of making a distinction. treatment or consideration of, or making a distinction in favour of or against, a person or thing based on the group, class, or category to which that person or thing belongs rather than on individual merit 2. The potential effects of discrimination can be different for different people. The effects can be physical, emotional or a combination of both. For example service users with disabilities may not be given a chance to join in with activities due to others thinking that their disability prevents them from being able to do so.
Social bias depicts a precise opinion or view of something. This type of behavior or attitude influenced by a meticulous judgment may be presented as bias. Often time’s individuals are not aware of their biases, yet it is very common for someone to be unaware of this. Stereotypes develop when individuals are not able or they are unwilling to attain the information that would be needed to formulate reasonable judgments about individuals and certain situations. When the total picture is absent then blind judgment causes stereotyping.
