I felt the joy and fulfilment as an artist through the realization that my work was able to touch the hearts of the audience, the people in the community because they could relate to it and it gave them the lift they have longed for--the boost of morale about their chosen walk of life. This has made me realize that an artist has a responsibility to his community and we just have different ways to fulfil it. A message from a friend has strengthened my will to walk the life of an artist in order to perform my responsibility. From Dann Marr: “I was so thrilled to see a very familiar name on the exhibit. It was really great like no joke. I was actually teary eyed when I sort of deciphered the meaning behind those works of art. Thanks for helping me realize taking the road less travelled is worth it. I'm actually in government service for the last 4 years and seeing those masterpieces made me feel everything that's bothering me lately is making sense already. You know, answering lifelong questions that seemed to be rhetoric.” When I was asked, “why did you choose the walk of life of an artist”, I was surprised and silenced for few seconds. I honestly did not walk the life of an artist for quite some time, I haven’t done any artwork for years and I am bad at sketching my thoughts on paper. The first time I was with their group, I was bewildered on how to respond to their needs or how to mingle with them especially seeing those who have multiple disabilities. As I continued to work with them in their many activities, I saw the beauty of their sector. There is so much love and respect for each other. They are amazing, intelligent, filled with positive outlook in life and actively participate in many useful activities that would benefit their fellow PWDs.
