It is import for college sudents to know that Federal Stafford Loans Federal Stafford Loans are awarded to help cover the cost of your education. You are responsible for repaying this loan even if you are dissatisfied with your education, do not complete it, or cannot find work in your area of study. Borrow only the amount you can afford to repay, even if you are eligible to borrow more.  Continued Loan Eligibility - A student is required to complete an academic year in order to receive additional federal student loans. CSU defines our academic year as 24 semester hours over a period of 32 weeks of instructional time for undergraduate students and 12 semester hours over a period of 32 weeks of instructional time for graduate students. If a student drops or withdraws and fails to complete the academic year requirements and exhausts all of their financial aid eligibility for the award year, they will not be eligible for additional Stafford Loans until the academic year requirements are met.  Loan Cancellation – Before your loan money is disbursed, you may cancel all or part of your loan at any time by notifying your school. After your loan is disbursed, you may cancel all or part of your loans within 30 days of receiving your award notification.  Use of Loan Money - You may only use your loan money to pay educational expenses (e.g., tuition, room, board, books) at the school that certified your loan eligibility.  Change of Status or Address - You must tell your school and/or lender if you stop attending school, no longer attend school on at least a half-time basis, or transfer to another school.
