Good morning to the honourable judges, teachers and all my fellow friends. The title of my speech today is “How to prepare for and do well in examination”. The topic of how to prepare and do well for examinations haunts us from Year One to Year Six along our study in primary school. This topic will continue to haunt us even when we are in secondary school. Why would I say so? This is due to the three public exams we have to face in Year 6, Form 3 and Form 5. They are the bugs that make schooling tedious and stressful. Yet, we are always told that the best times of our lives are the schooling years. Can this be true? Yes! It is true provided we observe the golden rule of making studying enjoyable. When this is enjoyable, examinations become a breeze. In the beginning, this sound ridiculous to me. This is because what I always do to face my examination is to myself up in my room and cram all night before the exam. I am sure you do that too. Though, I could not manage to do as well as I expect when I sit for examination. I feel sad and frustrated every time after examination. Then, one day, my father came to me and he told me that this is kind of studying is not an ideal method. “Learn to study smart, not study hard” is what he told me. I have always hear adults and books saying “Learn to Study Smart”, “Study smart can perform better than study hard” and more. But, how many of us as a child knows the ways of study smart? Let me share with you some of the ways to study smart which I had learned. First of all, we have to stay healthy by making sure we get enough exercise and rest. A positive attitude is always important. We should try to say positive things like ‘I can pass this exam!’ rather than negative ones like ‘I’ll fail for sure…’ Then, we also have to read through used textbooks, past year exam papers and notes to give us an insight into the exam format.
