The ollie is an essential trick in the sport of skateboarding. It is the act of jumping with the skateboard lifting off the ground with you. Once you have got the ollie down you will be able to learn a lot of new tricks and expand your skateboarding tricks. It is best to learn the ollie moving if you can but if you are not confident enough you can learn it stationary or on grass or carpet if you like. Start with your back foot on the tail of the board and your front foot approximately half way to three quarters of the way up the board or where ever it feels most comfortable. Bend your knees and pop that tail down as hard as you can while also jumping and sliding your front foot up to the front bolts which will lift and level the board out. Make sure you jump forward and lean forward. Land and bend your knees to absorb the impact and ride away. Some problems that you might encounter while learning the ollie are that the board slips out from in front of you and you fall on you backside. The problem is that you are not jumping forward with the board or you are not leaning forward enough. Another problem you might have is that the board is flipping on its side. Make sure that you are sliding your foot straight up the board. If you are not getting off the ground you need to either snap down the tail harder or lift your legs up when you jump. The board is only going to go as high as you jump. Keep practicing because you wont get this overnight. But you should have it down within a month of practicing. Good
