How to make a Red Velvet Cake with Classic Red Velvet Frosting Dear Leslie, You have told me in the past that you would like to make my Nana’s Red Velvet cake with the Classic Red Velvet frosting for your wedding day. I believe if you follow the 5 Step I have provide you. Your cake will be beautiful for your big day. The total time for the cake should be approximately 4 hours which includes cooling time for the cake and the frosting. Step one: Get the following ingredients and baking utensils: cake flour, salt, vanilla extract, baking soda, eggs, vinegar, cocoa powder unsweetened, red food coloring, butter, granulated sugar, milk, all-purpose flour and buttermilk, 2-4 quart saucepans, 2(9 inch) round cake pans, either a mixer stand or hand mixer it doesn’t matter. You also need measuring spoons and cups, sifter, a knife, a whisk, scissors, wax paper, shortening, mixing bowls, a spatula to scrape the bowls, off set spatula to even out the cake and apply frosting, plastic wrap, cake board, and a cake stand. Now let’s move on to the next step. Step two: Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. This is an important step because if your oven isn’t at the correct temperature, you are taking a risk that the cake will cook unevenly fall. This should take about 15mins depending on how your oven works. Now that you have the oven preheating start preparing the cake pans, by taking your wax paper and cut it into 2- 9inch circles. Then apply some shortening to both side of each circle and put them in your cake pans. Now you can move on to step three. Step three batter: First you need to measure out 2 ½ cups of cake flour into a sifter that you have placed in a bowl. This will prevent any clumps in your flour.
