Violent, preventable crimes by minors have long plagued America’s larger cities but have scarcely been punished because of the age of the perpetrators. Protected by a lenient and highly outdated juvenile justice system, violent youth have taken advantage of such benefits and have run rampant in our cities. High profile slayings are quite the norm on the evening news, and every once in a while, disaster strikes and we lose a large number of lives at the hands of young offenders. And sadly, naive America continues to lose more and more lives at the hands of reckless teens and repeat offenders because we choose to give them as many chances as they need so long as they are not legal adults. Unfortunately, we have to lose and destroy more lives because we refuse to
(NYC Economic Development Corporation) Hunts Point has suffered from crime and poverty for many years and is part of the poorest congressional district in the country, with over half the population living below the poverty line. The community is considered to be a ‘Red Light District’ in many cases for its crime and prostitution. The community’s 41st police precinct consistently records the highest violent crime rate per capita in New York City. As a result, the area has a high rate of incarceration. Due to the lucrative drug trade in the area, many drug addicts reside in the community.
Some people get trigger-happy when it comes to tense situations. Because of this, criminals are killed more often by citizens than by law enforcement (Huntwork). Firearm injuries are the second leading cause of injury (Ruben). There are more gun related fatalities in the United States than in the worlds thirty-six other richest nations. Murders by firearm rates are 17.5 times higher than in twenty-two other populous high-income nations combined.
We need officers to step up and do a better job of stopping these crimes because it’s tearing our city apart. Officers do a great job of being there to give out parking tickets but very seldom are around when homicide crimes are in action. If we increase the number of officers in the city we would be able to scatter around the city more and be able to react to action quicker. The city could get a federal grant to hire more officers and the Detroit citizens need more jobs available so
There was so many immigrants descending on the city but many had problems finding jobs so they instead turned to crime.Newyork was also the center of commerce which is always a beacon for criminal types. At the turn of the century the city was largely over populated there was a million people to each 2 square mile. There was not enough jobs or housing for all these people.gambling dens and saloons started springin g up everywhere and the crime followed. The police were even to afraid to respond to calls in some areas without having a sufficient number of officers along. There was always a leader to these organized crime gangs. One such leader was called the American Napolean of crime.
Most of the crime that occurs, happens in either New York city or the Bronx. “Most of the crime remaining occurs in poor areas, which tend to be outlying.” (During the administration of Mayor Rudolph Giuliani (1994–2002),” (Roughead, William, and W. N. Roughead. Classic Crimes ) Violent crimes are probably the worst crime that can be committed. The types of crimes which are put under the category of violent are criminal homicide, aggravated assault, rape, and robbery. The worst of the for would be criminal homicide.
Before people wouldn’t mind attending public functions in the city, taking their family out to parks, and other outdoor activities, but this steady increase in criminal activity has led people to be afraid to attend these functions since they can become a victim and a statistic. Due this rise in criminal activity the Belize City Council (C.I.T.C.O) has made it mandatory that all social night spots in Belize City be closed by 2:00 a.m. Other necessary steps are being taken by the Police Department to crack down on the criminal activities, and put those well known criminal elements away. By taking these necessary steps, there are some innocent people who get profiled because any one can be an element, they come
Police Corruption and Misconduct All over the world many police officers abuse the power they are given. In general the job of police is to protect and serve its citizens, to keep them from harm. But instead there are many officers who do the opposite. According to Pollock (2010), “police corruption does not occur just in the United States” (p. 175). In general, the police comes into contact more often with citizens then any other government official.
Street crime has always received much more attention than corporate mostly due to the significant power differences between the criminals. The impact of such a disproportionate focus on street crime leads to the negative perceptions of minorities and lower-class individuals that only perpetuate the distortion of the true nature of crime in the United States. Both corporate and street crimes are but more mediums through which societal problems deriving from the class- and race- stratified nature of the United States can be seen. The heavily publicizing of street crime by the media are a few reasons why most Americans usually focus on street crime rather than on corporate crime. Other factors such as the exclusion of corporate crime in the United Crime Reports (UCR) published by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) that are based on data from local police agencies contribute to the less focus of corporate crime by Americans.
If the responsibilities were limited in the community it would result in more chaos and more crime, and people would no longer seek police assistance. Agencies at the local level represent the largest number of police officers and include municipal police, county sheriff’s department, county police, coroner and a medical examiner, special district police (Walker & Katz, 2011). City police departments are the most complex division of law enforcement because the functions that officers perform vary. The primary responsibility of city police officers is protecting and serving the people. City police officers are responsible for maintaining order, responding to emergency calls, and dealing with violence, and serious crime.
