Lancaster County is known to be the heart of Pennsylvania Dutch country and has tourists from all over the nation to sight see and explore the Amish ways. Lancaster itself is a beautiful, suburban town that is growing rapidly and has many things to do. I personally live in the suburbs of Lancaster and my family has never experienced any problems with crime around our neighborhood. Lancaster City on the other hand is full of crime every day. Now don’t get me wrong, there are some nice parts of Lancaster City such as Main Square where Central Market and Fulton Theatre are, but most of Lancaster city is dirty and full of crime. Lancaster has a population of 56, 347 people. Visiting Lancaster you would never guess how dangerous of a city it actually is but Lancaster has one of the highest crime rates in America compared to communities of all sizes. There are many different theories on how to decrease crime rate such as not having the right to bear arms or keeping criminals behind bars for longer periods of time, but there isn’t really one solution to fix the problem. There will obviously always be corruption and crime, it is part of life, but I think that police forces could focus more on violent crimes than they do. We could also have more neighborhood crime watches in town. That way cops could drive around neighborhoods at night to make sure everything looks like it’s in order. This is especially needed in Lancaster City where there are so many random robberies and shootings on the streets. I think awareness of this problem should also be increased. I don’t think many people are aware to how high the actual crime rate is in Lancaster. I knew it was pretty bad when I started my research, but I had no idea how badly we
